Hello & welcome to my blog,
My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. Today's blog is all about making slimline cards. I've created these cards using basic products that most people will have but I also used the Stampin' Up® Slim Sayings stamp set & Slimline dies which were available during the January - June '22 Mini catalogue. I hope you like what I've made!
To get the right size for the card I used the dimensions of a DL envelope - 22 x 11cm, then cut down .5cm on two sides to allow a little wiggle room.
I started playing around with colours & DSP & decided that blues & greens were the nicest combination. This is the first card I made.
I used Basic White as the base, measuring 21.5 x 21cm & scored the 21cm side at 10.5cm. The first matte is Mint Macaron, measuring 21 x 10cm. I used one of the edging dies from Slim Card dies to create the scalloped edge. I then cut a piece of Waves of the Ocean DSP 21 x 8.3cm. The blue chevron pattern was created using Starry Sky cardstock measuring 21 x 8.5cm which was diecut using the Slim Card dies. I kept the inside pieces for the next project.
To finish off the card I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment in Night of Navy & diecut it using the messages dies. I then mounted it on a strip of foil from the Blue Foils pack. The ends were made with the Banners Pick-a-punch. The final touch was adding a few Rhinestone Waves jewels.
As I already had the inside pieces from the first card I decided to make a reverse or mirror card with them.
The card base is the same but I added a matte of Starry Sky measuring 21 x 10.2cm, just a smidge smaller than the base. Next was the DSP measuring 20.5 x 10cm. This allowed a little bit of room for the scalloped die on the edge.
The chevron pattern took the longest time on this card as I wanted to get it as neat as possible. To achieve a neat pattern I first laid the original die over the cardstock & lightly pencilled lines at the edges to give me a guide to place the cut outs. I then carefully glued each piece down, following the design of the die until I had a mirror of the first card. I chose to use portrait orientation for this card so that I could use the 'You are one of a kind' stamp. I stamped the sentiment in Starry Sky on some Mint Macaron then diecut it out using the Tailor Made Tags dies. Some White Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon & Starry Sky Metallic Woven ribbon was added to the top of the tag along with a few Rhinestone Waves jewels before mounting with dimensionals.
Here's a pic of the inside of the card which I like to decorate to finish my cards off. With the Waves of Inspiration stamp and sponge daubers I added Pacific Point, Coastal Cabana & Night of Navy ink to the wave stamp then partially stamped on the Basic White for the inside. This was backed with some DSP. You can also see a little of the stamp on the inside of card number 1. I chose this stamp set because the pattern seemed a good match for the pattern on the DSP.
As mentioned, I've used a few items that are now retired but I wanted to show you how easy it is to create slimline cards with whatever products you have on hand. If you don't have the Slim Sayings stamps or Slim Card dies you could easily make cards using the dimensions given above but with different diecut features - the Tag dies are ideal for this.
So that's it for another week. I enjoyed creating these cards this week & I hope you enjoyed checking out my creations. Thanks for popping in. My next Mid Week blog on Wednesday shows you how to use partial diecutting as a feature on a card. Next week's regular blog showcases the Biggest Wish stamp set as a background stamp. I hope you can join me for both of these blogs.
