Lattice Split design card

 Hello, welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. If this is your first time here, thanks for visiting, I hope you enjoy what I have to share with you. If you're a returning visitor, thank you so much for supporting me! 😍

This week I am showcasing a lovely stamp set & matching dies that I used to create  a split or floating style card with a difference. The stamp set is the retired Brightest Beauty & the dies are Golden Beauty. The reason I chose this set is because the plant is an Acacia or Golden Wattle & we have loads of them around our suburb. It's a beautiful flowering plant that gives hayfever sufferers hell but luckily I don't suffer so I can enjoy the beautiful blooms! I hope you enjoy what I have for you today. Plus it looks gorgeous on the front of the card!

I have created a floating or split card before but I saw this type of split card on Brandy's cards & really loved the different way she had used the split & wanted to play around with it myself. Here's the finished card....

To create this card I started with a portrait card base plus a landscape base. You will also need a piece of DSP measuring 21 x 9.5cm. I chose some of the Dainty Flowers DSP from Sale-a-bration.

The main part of the card is the lattice which is made using the portrait base.

With the card folded in half, cut an 8cm piece from the bottom. Cut 5, 1.2cm strips from this piece. These 5 pieces will be the horizontal strips of the lattice. Cut the remaining 2cm piece in half. These last two pieces will be the vertical supports for the lattice.

The horizontal strips are temporarily attached to the card by placing some washi tape to the inside of the front of the card, face up. Once you are happy with the placement of the strips, apply spots of glue to the top of the vertical strips & on the horizontal strips where the vertical strips will sit. Once the glue is dried, carefully remove the washi tape from the back.

I stamped & diecut three images of the wattle flowers in Pear Pizzazz & Daffodil Delight using the Stamparatus. This enabled me to reink & stamp a second time for a stronger colour. I layered one with dimensionals over a second image. These were carefully adhered to the lattice front making sure that I only glued where the images would touch the card.

A sentiment from Fancy Phrases was stamped in Old Olive on the front corner with the complimentary sentiment included inside the card. To finish the front of the card I stamped some Dragonflies from Dragonfly Garden by colouring directly onto the stamp using Parakeet Party, Sahara Sand & Highland Heather Stampin' Write markers.

The next step is creating & attaching the landscape card.

Start by scoring the DSP in half. Next, cut diagonally from the centre fold to the right corner. Glue the uncut side of the DSP to the front of the base. The cut side of the DSP is adhered to the inside of the card ONLY along the bottom edge. This has now created a pocket for the inside of the card for a gift card or packet of seeds etc.

With the card in the open position, carefully trim down from the top of the card along the score line until just above the DSP.

Apply glue to the back of the lattice card & attach the pocket card to it.

A sentiment from Dragonfly Garden was stamped above the pocket & 'Happy Birthday' was stamped using the Go To Greetings stamp set on the inside of the base card in a position that can be seen when the lattice is lifted.

The final stamped floral image was then adhered to the reverse of the lattice along with some more dragonflies & the sentiment that matches the sentiment on the front of the card.

To give the dragonflies a little pop I added some Wink of Stella to all of them and added a few little drops to each of the wattle blossoms. It doesn't really show up in the photos but it adds just a little bit of shine just like a dragonfly's wings.

I intend to add a packet of seeds inside the pocket to compliment the garden feel of the card.

That's all I have for you this week. I hope you enjoyed what I have shared with you. My next post is for my mid week blog on Wednesday when I will be showing you a colouring technique. Next week's post will feature a lovely die called Pretty Pop-ups. I hope you can join me again for both of these posts.
