Mid Week design #74 - Colouring is fun!

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about. Today I will be showing you how to create colour using a combination of Stampin' Blend & Stampin' Write markers. Here is the final coloured image. I hope you like it.

I started with a piece of Basic White, The Irresistible Blooms stamps & a post it note that I had stamped the large flower onto & cut out. This was then used to mask when stamping more flowers & leaves.

The next step was to stamp. After stamping one of the large flowers onto the Basic White I then masked it with the post-it note & stamped a large & small flower plus some leaves. I used Sweet Sorbet for the large flowers, Real Red for the small bloom & Garden Green for the leaves.

Here's the finished image before it was coloured.

Next I chose some Stampin' Write markers & Stampin' Blends to fill in some of the white areas.

The Blends were Light Poppy Parade, Light & Dark Flirty Flamingo & Dark Mint Macaron. The Markers were Mango Melody & Garden Green.

I coloured in some areas with the pinks and reds, one at a time, in random spots, going back to fill in areas that I thought needed more work. The leaves were less work as there was only a few that needed the Garden Green. These were coloured in the centre areas only then had the Mint Macaron added around the outer area. I also added some Mint Macaron to the white areas of the solid leaves. All that was left was to use some Mango Melody in the centre & the images were complete. Here's a larger shot of the finished work.

I'm really happy with how this combination of Blends & Markers worked out. I've never combined the two before & wasn't sure about leaving some areas white but I really like the randomness of the colours. It's definitely given me more confidence to try colouring again more often.

That's it for this week.  I hope you enjoyed this technique & will try colouring yourself.

My next blog is on Sunday & features a die with a difference. It's called pretty Pop-ups & is unique. I can't wait to show you what I've created with them! In next week's Mid Week blog I will show you how to create some quick cards for when you need some in a flash. I hope you can join me again for both of those.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
