Mid Week Blog #79 - Z Fold pop up fun fold

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I will show you how to create a pop up card crossed with a Z fold! It's a gorgeous fold that is easy to make but looks impressive. I have seen a number of creations with this fold, the first was on Youtube by Lisa at Lisa's Stamp Studio but the measurements I used today were taken from a Pinterest post linked to Crafted by Kate as they are in metric & Lisa's were in Imperial.  I used new products from the Annual catalogue that goes live next week!!! Eeeekkk! There are so many beautiful products in the catalogue that I may have spent a little bit too much with my first order. 😁 I hope you enjoy learning how I made this pretty card.

Step 1:     Creating the base.

I used Blueberry Bushel, measuring 25 x 10.5cm & scored it at 5cm & 10cm.

The matte cardstock is Lemon Lolly. There are two pieces measuring 10 x 4.5cm for the front wings & one measuring 14.5 x 10cm for the base panel.

The DSP comes from the Beautiful Balloons suite. There are two pieces measuring 9.5 x 4cm for the front wings & one measuring 14 x 9.5cm for the base panel.

Step 2:     Creating the pop up blocks.

Using the same colours & a different pattern of DSP I cut 3 different sized blocks, mattes & DSP as follows:

Block 1 - Blueberry Bushell measuring 13 x 8cm, scored at 1.5, 5 & 9.5cm, Lemon Lolly measuring 7.5 x 4cm & DSP measuring 7 x 3.5cm.

Block 2 - Blueberry Bushell measuring 10 x 6.5cm, scored at 1.5, 4 & 7.5cm, Lemon Lolly measuring 6 x 3cm & DSP measuring 5.5 x 2.5cm.

Block 3 - Blueberry Bushell measuring 7.5 x 4cm, scored at 1.5, 3 & 6cm, Lemon Lolly measuring 3.5 x 2.5cm & DSP measuring 3 x 2cm.

The next step is to adhere all mattes & DSP together & adding them to the card base & blocks.

Starting with Block 1 I applied liquid glue to the 1.5cm strip & the strip to the left of the matte & DSP. Positioning the block flat (with glue & DSP facing up) I centred it against the 10cm score line then closed the front of the card over it, holding down until the glue had held. Open the card up & fold the 1.5cm glued strip under then fold the card down again. This should give you the first block.

Repeat this step with the two smaller blocks until you have them all glued down.

Here are different flat, side & aerial views of the finished card to show you how it should look.

Although the card looks a bit tricky, if you follow the steps & make sure your measurements & glueing is done carefully, this is really quite a simple card to create. I will be adding a sentiment & embellishments to this card for next week's mid week blog.

That's it for this week.  I hope you enjoyed this technique. If you try this yourself I would love to see some photos of your work. Please feel free to post them to my facebook page at craftedbyalison.

My next blog on Sunday features some creations made with some new embossing folders called Basics 3D embossing folders. They come in a 3 pack & are available in the Online Exclusives section of my shop. In next week's Mid Week blog I will be showing you some creations CASE'd from the new Annual Catalogue using the Beautiful Balloons bundle & some of the new colours as well as the finished version of todays card. I hope you can join me again for both of those.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
