Midweek blog #148 - Using Storybook Moments DSP to create simple, cute greeting cards.

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I am sharing some lovely cards I made with the Storybook Moments DSP & Timeless Plaid DSP from the Storybook Moments suite. I had a lot of fun playing around with this lovely paper & I hope you enjoy the end results.

These three cards were all made with the DSP but only one of the co-ordinating stamps as I will be featuring the stamps in my blog on Sunday. Here's a rundown of how they were created, one by one.

The first card has a Wild Wheat base. The DSP is from Timeless Plaid. The sentiment from
Sweetly Scripted, was stamped directly onto the DSP.
The focal piece has a cute badger standing on a brick wall. This was created by diecutting the frame from Basic White using one of the dies from Storybook Moments dies. The centre is also cut out which allowed me to colour the two pieces separately. But first, I stamped the brick wall in Copper Clay. Once the pieces were separated I blended the outside of the frame with Wild Wheat & added some Balmy Blue above the stone wall on the inner piece. The brick scene was coloured with Lemon Lime Twist, Pale Papaya, Crumb Cake, Ivory & SU900 blends. To this I added a cute little critter, fussy cut from the DSP along with a flower. They are both raised slightly with mini glue dots before the whole image was adhered on dimensionals once the DSP was added.
For some extra elements I wrapped some Natural Wavy Trim (retired) around the DSP before it was stuck down then finished it with some Adhesive Backed Swirl Dots.
I then decorated the envelope & inside of the card with the same bricks & sky stamping. A photo of the envelopes will follow after the last card.

The second card was incredibly simple.

On a Basic White base I added a Pecan Pie that was embossed with one of the Basics 3D embossing folders. I chose the spotty folder to tie it in with the background of the focal image.
Again, the sentiment from another retired stamp set, Good Morning Magnolia, was stamped directly onto the DSP image.
For something a little different I curled one of the corners before adhering it to the card. The final steps were adding a small fussy cut floral image & some 2024-26 In Colour Shimmer gems.
This time for the inside of the card I blended a little Wild Wheat & added a scrap from the DSP.

And so, onto the final card.
No critters on this one!
A simple, Basic White base with a Calypso Coral matte, embossed with a different folder from the Basics 3D embossing folders.
The focus of the DSP this time is the houses of the critters. It is positioned low with a small strip of embossed Pecan Pie where the DSP ends. The sentiment is from Flower Cart, stamped in Pecan Pie.
I punched that out with a 2" circle punch. I also punched another circle from the embossed Pecan Pie cardstock & trimmed it down so that it was slightly smaller, allowing me to angle it at the top & bottom of the sentiment. A different way of highlighting the sentiment which I like.
That was then raised on dimensionals before adding a Petal Pink, Diagonal Trim bow. And that's it, done!

And to keep the theme going, the inside has a Calypso Coral matte then a Basic White matte with some Old Olive blended & a second generation stamping of a veggie patch from the stamp set.

Here are all three finished cards with their decorated envelopes.

I love decorating the insides of the card as well as the envelope to tie it all together & let the recipient know that something special is in their letterbox!

That's all I have for you today. Thanks for visiting my blog, especially 'repeat offenders'! I appreciate your support. If you would like me to show you a particular technique, style of stamping or product then please, drop me a line at craftedbyalison@gmail.com & I'll do my best.

My next blog is on Sunday where I will share some CASE'd projects from the mini catalogue using the Storybook Moments suite.
Next week's mid week blog will feature a Colour Challenge, my first for the year. Colour Challenges are a great way to help you get outside of your comfort zone when working with colours.
I hope you can join me for both of these blogs. Til next time, take care & keep creating.
XX Alison
