Mid week blog#150! - Using card sketches to create

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I am sharing a card sketch provided by Stampin' Up in their Annual Catalogue on page 22.

Here's the sketch...

There are only 3 elements to the card which means it's easy to create with. The measurements are:
Base - regular 14.85cm x 21cm, scored at 10.5cm.
Matte - 11.85cm x 7.5cm.
Detail strips - 1. 8cm x 1.5cm, 2. 7.5cm x 1.5cm.
With this simple design as a starting point I created these 2 cards...

The card on the left has a Blueberry Bushel base which picks out one of the flowers from the Bloom Impressions DSP. This paper is free when you reach qualifying sales during the Sale-A-Bration promotion which runs until the end of February.
There is a Basic White matte next which I stamped flowers all over with Azure Afternoon, Blueberry Bushel, Bubble Bath, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape & Lemon Lolly. This gives a similar pattern to the DSP. The small tufts of grass were created with a Shy Shamrock Stampin' Write marker.
The DSP matte was added next.
For the 2 small strips I chose some more Blueberry Bushel & Basic White which has some Blueberry Bushel blending under the sentiment from Cake Celebrations.
These 2 pieces were adhered together then raised on dimensionals to finish the card. Very quick & easy.

The card on the right is similar but with a twist.
The base is Basic White with some Lemon Lolly blending, Lemon Lolly & Pumpkin Pie flowers & water coloured Garden Green grass tufts.
This time I went with Garden Green for the matte, embossed with the Starstruck folder, also one of the Sale-A-Bration items. It's a lovely folder that gives a cheery background.
The small strips are a different pattern from the Bloom Impressions DSP & the sentiment on the second strip is heat embossed in WOW White embossing powder on Garden Green.
Before raising them on dimensionals I added a pretty bow made with white Diagonal Trim ribbon.

Two different versions of the one sketch.  I love 'em both.

This was a lovely, easy sketch to create with & has many different possibilities.

But, that's all I have for you for this week's blog. I hope you enjoyed looking at the latest card sketch & will consider creating with it yourself. If you do, why not pop over to my Facebook page at craftedbyalison & leave a picture for me?

My next blog is on Sunday & features a 3D project then the next mid week blog has a quick way to create lots of cards easily. I hope you can join me for both of them.

Until next time, thanks for dropping by, take care & keep creating.

XX Alison
