Mid week blog series - #1 Corner fold card technique

Hello & welcome to my new mid week blog series.

Each week I will show you a different technique in either stamping, colouring or designing a card. For my first in this series I have decided to show you how to create a card with a built in pocket for gift cards! It's super easy but saves you the job of finding a way of enclosing a gift card or wrapping it separately.

Here's a pic of a finished example and the inside with a gift card:

To make one of your own you will need :

Main cardstock 21 x 14.8cm

1 piece of white cardstock for the inside (right panel) 14.3 x 10cm

1 piece of white cardstock for the inside (left panel) 13.8 x 9.5cm

Contrast cardstock for matting the image 9.5 x 7.5cm

White cardstock for stamping image 8.5 x 6.5cm

2 pieces of DSP 14.3 x 10cm

White cardstock scrap for stamping the sentiment.

Contrast cardstock for sentiment matting - dependant on your sentiment, this card used 3 x 10cm before trimming the edges.

Dimensionals & glues

Trimmer

Embellishments if desired

Assembly:

1. Score the main cardstock in half at 10.5cm. Fold & burnish the scoreline.

2. Measure in from the top left side of the card front (where the spine of the card is) at 2cm and place a small pencil mark. Measure down on the right edge of the card front at 7cm and place a small pencil mark.

3. Open the card up and line the pencil marks along the cutting line of your trimmer. Score from the 2cm mark down to the 7cm mark. This will be the turn down for your card front & provide part of the pocket for a gift card.

4. Measure in 1.5cm from the top left of one of  the DSP pieces & place a small pencil mark. Measure down the right side & place a small pencil mark at 6.3cm. Line up the pencil marks on your trimmer and cut away this piece. Adhere this to the front of the card.

5. Repeat with the second piece of DSP but in reverse - measure & mark at 8.5cm across the top of the DSP and down to 6.3cm on the left side of the DSP. Trim off this piece & adhere the DSP to the inside front of the card.

6. Trim the 13.8 x 9.5 piece of white cardstock by measuring along the top at 7.5cm & down the left side at 6.3cm & cutting diagonally. Adhere to the DSP inside the card front.

7. Adhere the 14.3 x 10cm white cardstock to the right of the inside of the card.

8. Fold the scored area of the card front down onto the front of the card & glue down firmly.

9. Stamp your image & sentiment on the white/plain cardstock & colour the image if needed.

10. Adhere the stamped image to the 9.5 x 7.5cm contrast cardstock.

11. Stamp the sentiment on the white scrap & punch or cut out. Adhere to the contrast matt.

12. Position the image slightly off centre on the front of the card to find how far you will need to glue. The right edge will only be glued approx. 5cm up from the bottom.

13. Apply glue ONLY along the left edge, bottom & up approx. 5cm from the bottom of the right side of the image. This will leave an opening when glued to the card front that the gift card will sit inside of.

14. Adhere to the front of the card.

15. Add dimensionals to the sentiment & adhere to the front of the card.

16. Add embellishments if desired.

And that's it! There seem to be a lot of steps but when you work through it it's actually quite an easy card. When you open the card the gap between the image & the card front form a little hidy hole for a gift card to snuggle into. The size of the image & matting allows for the size of the gift card to be hidden until you open the card. If you don't want to use this for a gift card then simply stick all of the image onto the front of the card.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial & can come back next week for my next one. Don't forget that I have a regular blogpost that is published each Sunday at 10am. Perfect for a coffee break. Take care until next time. XX Alison
