Mid Week blog #51 Using a Pinwheel design on cards
Hello & welcome to my blog,
My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. Today's blog is all about using a pinwheel design as a feature of a card. I hope you like what I've made!
First up is a traditional pinwheel design created with 4 DSP prints. To create the blades of the pinwheel I used a square die from the Stitched Shapes dies & diecut 4 pieces of DSP then cut them in half diagonally.
In order to have the pieces stay in place while I assembled the pinwheel I used a large glue dot which the tip of each triangle was adhered to. I angled each triangle 45degrees, 2 triangles making a square each time as I went around. Once the pinwheel was complete I added some mini glue dots to the tips of the wheel then some liquid glue & adhered it to the matte which was run through the Climbing Vines embossing folder.
The DSP colours include Soft Succulent, gold & Evening Evergreen so I chose Soft Succulent for the card base & Evening Evergreen for the gold embossed sentiment from Go To Greetings. To finish off the card I added a gilded gem to the centre of the pinwheel & a couple on the sentiment. I used Soft Succulent to stamp some leaves from Eden's Garden on the inside of the card & on the envelope and the card was finished.
For the second card I decided to try a different look by creating a flower with the pinwheel. The pinwheel was created slightly differently. I used only 6 triangles & angled them approximately 3/4 of the way along each one. I like the angles created when you only use 6. It gives a completely different finish.
I used the Art Gallery stamp set for the stem of the flower & Many Messages for the sentiment. The DSP is from the July to December mini catalogue and I chose Bumblebee & Black as mattes behind the image. For a little contrast I used a Crumb Cake card base & then popped a few Black Matte dots around the card & a Parakeet Party In Colour Matte dot for the centre of the 'flower'
So that's it for another mid week blog. I hope you've enjoyed seeing how I used the pinwheel & give it a try yourself. If you do I would love you to post a pic on my FaceBook page at CraftedbyAlison.
