Mid Week blog #56 - Creating backgrounds using the baby wipe technique.

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. Today's blog shows you how to create your own DSP using inks on baby wipes. It's a super easy process but can create stunning backgrounds that are completely unique with each one. I had mixed results this week. I've created some lovely cards in the past but not all of the results were usable. I'll show you the failures as well as the success so you can learn from it too & have success if you try it yourself. I hope you enjoy this technique.

First of all though I'll show you a sneak peak of the card front I have started, using one of the successful stamped images. This will be shown in more detail in my blog on Sunday.

So the technique involves having a container to place a folded baby wipe in plus some ink refills. I only have a limited supply of 5 colours at the moment so I used them in the following photos.

In these 2 photos I used Seaside Spray, Pretty Peacock & Purple Posy. The first photo is straight after inking, the second photo is after waiting for 5 mins. As you can see, the ink spreads quite a lot & blends together. When I stamped with this one though there was not enough colour transferred to the stamp.

The next experiment was swiping ink pads across the wipe. I used Sweet Sorbet, Terracotta Tile, Bumblebee, Daffodil Delight & Parakeet Party. This was messy on my hands & didn't transfer much ink to the stamp either.

Experiment #3:

I decided to use some ink bottles that I had purchased at a craft fair. They were used but had proved effective in a previous experiment. I think that there Use By date may have arrived though as the results were not as good this time. It did cross my mind that perhaps it was a different brand of wipes which may have a different composition, affecting the outcome. Not sure. On to trial #4!

This time I used Terracotta Tile, Rococco Rose & Pretty Peacock. At last! Some success.

I tried a variety of stamps & it worked out pretty good.

I only used a small amount of Rococco Rose so the main colours that come out in the stampings are Terracotta Tile & Pretty Peacock. The following pic shows all the different attempts.

I am happy with the stamped floral image which comes from Merriest Moments & have started creating with it to show you how to use the finished stampings. If you would like to see the final card it will be on my blog on Sunday.

I hope you give this technique a try as it can give some lovely results. I'd love to see what you come up with if you try it so feel free to post some pics on my FaceBook page at craftedbyalison.
That's all I have for you for this post. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you've enjoyed this post. My next blog will be on Sunday & features a hybrid stamp set/dies/embossing folder - Merriest Moments. Next week's Mid Week blog shows you how to create gift bags - just in time for Christmas preparation. I hope you can join me for both of those.
Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
