Mid Week blog #85 - Floating strip technique

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

I do love a technique that is different but can still create a bit of a WOW factor to make a card special. This week I have a very easy technique that I hope you enjoy.

Here is a closeup of the finished project....

To start this techniques you will need some DSP & a piece of clear plastic window sheet. The DSP featured here is from Like An Animal.

Cut the DSP into 1cm strips.

Next, apply a small amount of liquid glue to each strip of DSP & adhere them evenly onto the window sheet.

To create the shape, run the window sheet through the cut & emboss machine a good number of times with the die of your choice. I used some washi tape to keep the die in place. I chose the largest circle of the Stylish Shapes dies. I found that as the paper was embossed, combined with the glue & the extra thickness of the window sheet I needed to crank the sheet through the machine around 6 times. Be patient & check before removing the washi tape so that you can re-run it through the machine until you're happy & it is cut through.

I then decided on an Early Espresso card base with a matte of the same colour. To give a little dimension I ran the matte through the embossing machine with the Timeworn Type embossing folder.

For the sentiment I chose Sahara Sand cardstock & Early Espresso ink with a message from the Rhino Ready stamp set. I then used the 3 smallest circles from the Stylish Shapes dies & layered them as shown.

Here are the 3 elements together.

Now, here is the finished card with some Brushed Metallic dots for a little bling. The grouped circles were adhered with a combination of liquid glue, single layer glue dots & double layer glue dots. The floating strips were raised on dimensionals.

This was a fun card to make. I would love to see any cards you make if you decide to try this technique. Please feel free to post them on my Facebook page at craftedbyalison.
That's it for this week's post. My next post is on Sunday & features a male themed stamp set that I have used before called He's All That. I have a new batch of designs for you using this set.
Next week's Mid Week blog will be a catalogue CASE. I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
