Mid Week blog#109 - Monochromatic colour choices

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I will show you how to create using just the one colour as the main theme. This is called Monochromatic & can create some beautiful cards. I hope you like them.

I chose a soft pastel colour & a strong earthy colour. More details are below.

First up is the warm, earthy Copper Clay teamed with the Lovely & Sweet stamp & dies bundle.
The card base is Very Vanilla along with the stamping of the image & sentiment.

To create this look I stamped a background pattern on Copper Clay cardstock with Copper Clay ink. The image & sentiment were stamped in Copper Clay on Very Vanilla. The centres of the flowers & the nuts were coloured with a water painter before being diecut. I gently curled the edges of the leaves before raising the image & sentiment with dimensionals. The final touch was to add a Vanilla & Pecan Pie bow - not strictly the same colour but it does tie in nicely with the tones.

The second card features Pool Party as the focus colour. I stamped a speckled background on Basic White using the Colour & Contour stamp set. The sentiment was stamped directly over this then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The image is also from the same stamp set & diecut with the Scalloped Contour dies. The rectangles are cardstock & DSP from the Softly Stippled pack, diecut with the Stitched Rectangles dies. I finished it with some Heart Pearls.

One of the things I love about Stampin' Up® products is the colour matching & co-ordination across the range. Pool Party has been around for many years as one of the core colours & each catalogue there is something new to play around with that features that colour. It's the same with all of the other colours, they either feature or compliment & can be used for many years.

That's it for this week's blog. I hope you enjoyed this unique way of creating. If you decide to give it a try I would love to see your creations so please feel free to pop over to my facebook page at craftebyalison & share your pics. My next blog is on Sunday & I will show you a gorgeous kit called Birthday Sparkle which is a sparkly, fun kit to play with then my next mid week blog will show you how to use heat embossing on vellum. I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
