Mid Week blog#114 - Lattice fence fun fold card

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Fun Folds are a great way to add a little WOW when sending a card to someone. I believe that everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday or any special occasion & Fun Folds can help you do that. Today's fun fold is called a Lattice Fence fun fold as the way the strips of cardstock are placed make it appear as if it is a picket fence but the design also lends itself to a lattice design. I have made a similar card in my March 19th 2023 blog but this is a little different. I hope you enjoy it.

I decided to create a fence with loads of flowers poking through for my card, and I love it!

I started with a regular 14.85cm x 21cm card base, scored in half. I then cut off 7.45cm from the front.
I embossed some Pecan Pie cardstock with the Timber embossing folder then cut three 14.85cm x 1.5cm strips & six 6.5cm x 1.5cm strips for the fencing.
The next step was to emboss some Parakeet Party cardstock with the crosshatch pattern from the Basics embossing folder pack. From this I cut a 14.85cm x 3.5cm strip & a 14.85cm x 2.5cm strip. These were adhered to the inside bottom of the card & above the scoreline on the inside, placing it on the inside of the front of the card. See photos below.

I then carefully applied a thin line of glue to the edge of the card front & adhered one of the timber strips.

Using some strips of Washi tape (with most of the tackiness gone) I aligned the cross beams of the fence, starting with the bottom one flush with the edge of the card & centring the middle one. Liquid glue was placed only on the cross beams so that none of the posts or beams would stick to the inside of the card. Three posts were adhered at even spaces on the front & three also on the reverse.

Next was the fun part - making the flowers! Using the Sending Smiles stamp set & co-ordinating dies I stamped flowers & greenery in Granny Apple Green, Garden Green, Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody & Early Espresso & diecut them. Some Boho Blue was blended in the background front & inside to create a sky effect.

The flowers were adhered to the greenery then added to the fence with liquid glue, glue dots & dimensionals.

The final steps were to add a sentiment, stamped in Pecan Pie on Basic White & diecut with one of the label dies from the Sending dies & some Faceted blue gems.

I have plans for more cards like this with animals in the background or birds sitting on the fence. I'll include them in a future post.

That's it for this week's blog. I hope you enjoyed this technique & give it a try. If you decide to create your own lattice card I would love to see your creations so please feel free to pop over to my facebook page at craftebyalison & share your pics. My next blog is on Sunday & I have some beautiful creations for you made with the Flower Cart bundle. Next week's mid week blog will feature a fun fold. I adore creating fun folds as they give you the opportunity to create something special that has a little WOW factor. I hope you can join me for both of them as I think you'll love them!

Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
