Mid Week blog#116 - Colour Wheel combinations

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

This week I'm excited to share with you something new that Stampin' Up® has introduced into their new Annual Catalogue - a Colour Wheel with additional inspiration in the form of different ways to use the colour wheel. There is Monochromatic, Complementary, Analogous & Triadic. I have chosen to focus on just one of those four for this blog - Analogous. This style of combining colours takes colours from adjoining areas on the colour wheel.

This card was created using one of the four inspiration combinations.

I'll start with a picture of the Colour Wheel from the catalogue...

I chose the top right side of the colour wheel, selecting Copper Clay, Calypso Coral & Peach Pie from the Red/Orange & Orange segments of the wheel.

This is the page that explains what each of the four different inspiration styles are & how to use them.
Here is the card I created with the supplies I used when creating it.

It's a really cute little card using some new & old products. I started with a Basic Beige card base, added a strip of 2024-26 In Colour DSP as well as a matte of Copper Clay. For the image & sentiment I decided that the colours were very Autumnal so I chose the Bird's Eye View stamp set as well as the retired Sale-A-Bration stamp set, Adorable Owls. The tree branch is stamped in Copper Clay then coloured with the Stampin' Write© marker. To create a little dimension to the branch I used a Colour Lifter pen to remove some of the ink. I then used Calypso Coral for the leaves but added some Copper Clay to the stamp with a sponge dauber, stamping them around the end of the branch & others to appear as if they were falling from the tree. The Owl & sentiment is stamped in Copper Clay also with the body of the owl coloured with the Peach Pie Stampin' Blend & a little of the Copper Clay Blend around the edges of the body & wings. The final touch was to add a little bling with a few 2024-26 In Colour Shimmer gems.
Here's a closer view of the end result.

I really enjoyed playing around with this type of creation. It opens up so many possibilities & has sparked my creativity. I'll be sure to share my next ones with you in future blogs but for now, that's all I have for you.

My next blog is on Sunday I will share another CASE from the catalogue.  Next week's mid week blog will feature another Card Sketch, a great way to spark your creativity. I hope you can join me for both of them as I think you'll love them!

Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
