Hello & welcome to my blog,
My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.
Today's card uses a masking technique to create a background with only the one colour. It's a monochromatic finish with a range of hues of the same ink. I hope you enjoy reading how I created it.
To begin the process I chose my ink - Blueberry Bushel then diecut 3 different sized circles from Basic White using the Beautiful Shapes dies.
After placing the template over another piece of Basic White I inked up a blending brush with the ink & coloured the circles in with different strengths of the ink. The circles are blended 1st to 3rd generations which is when you blend with the ink once, twice & then three times, which gives you lighter inkings. Some of the circles overlap so the overall effect is that of bubbles floating upwards. At least that's the image that comes to me!
With the background done I wanted a little something more to finish the background so chose a confetti stamp from Beautiful Balloons to add a pop of cheer & brightness.
With the card front finished I simply attached it to a Blueberry Bushel card base. The sentment, also from Beautiful Balloons, is heat embossed in silver on a scrap of Blueberry Bushel then mounted with dimensionals. I added some silver Drusy Adhesive Backed Embellishments and that's it for the card!
A really quick & simple card that has a WOW factor.
So that's it for my feature on creating a unique background with masking. I hope you enjoyed it.
My next blog is on Sunday & I will be creating a quilted effect card with the Crafting With You stamps & dies.
Next week's midweek blog focusses on a 5 minute fun fold technique.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
