Midweek blog #144 - Creating quick shaker cards

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I have an easy way for you to create a fun shaker card - without any dimensionals! The secret is to use clear envelopes to enfold your main focus on the card. This saves so much time but still gives a WOW factor. Here are two cards I have made using this technique.

Let's work through how I made these cards.

Both of these cards use a regular card base. The top one (sorry that the white is not crisp) has the focal piece enclosed in a clear envelope. The bottom card has a cut out piece with the shaker pieces inside a clear envelope.

Here are more details of the products & process...

With a Melon Mambo base I cut a Basic White matte & embossed it with the Eyelets folder. The focal piece is a matte of Melon Mambo cut to fit the envelope width plus a Basic White matte & a Marbled Elegance DSP heart diecut from the Hearts of Elegance dieset. This sandwich was slid inside the envelope before adding some From My Heart faceted gems for the shaker element.

I then carefully folded the bag over, trimming a little from the top & using Tear'n'Tape to hold it closed so that no gems would escape. More Tear'n'Tape was used to complete the wrap of the bag. Next were some dimensionals to raise it up from the base. The final touch is a Polished Pink Open Weave ribbon bow. Even though Polished Pink is now retired, the colour still works beautifully with the different pinks & reds of the DSP.  I decided not to add a sentiment at this stage. I'll decide later if it needs one.

Now for the second card.

I started with some A Little Latte DSP which I diecut the centre from with a Deckled Rectangles die. I kept the cutout to adhere to the Pebbled Path base. This wasn't done straight away. First I stamped & diecut many, many little coffee beans using Early Espresso, which I added to a clear envelope. I simple folded it over & adhered with Tear'n'Tape, again making sure that there were not gaps for the 'beans' to fall out of. This was attached to the reverse of the remainder of the DSP.
Now that the two pieces were ready to be added to the base I carefully placed the two together, adding some more tape to hold it in place then adhered the entire piece down onto the card base. This step was probably the trickiest part but it didn't take much effort.
Once I was happy with the placement I added a diecut cup from the same DSP & the card was finished. All that is needed is a sentiment when I want to use the card.

There are lots of video tutorials or pics on Pinterest if you would like to have a go at creating shaker cards with clear envelopes. They are a lot quicker & less fiddly that creating them with 3D foam tape.

That's all I have for you this week. I hope you've enjoyed learning how to create easy shaker cards.
My next post will be on Sunday when I CASE a 3D project from the Annual catalogue.
My next Midweek post will feature a Pop up funfold.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating!
XX Alison
