Hello & welcome to my blog,
My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!
Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.
Stampin' Up® 's Annual Catalogue was released last year with a very different format & it's a beauty! It's set out quite differently to previous catalogues but there are benefits to that. They now have sectioned it to have beginners, which is a step by step collection of materials in kits, then there is quick & easy where you select base materials & packs of pre-printed or diecut materials plus some stamp sets then there is create your way where you choose all the materials, stamps etc yourself & create your way! In the quick & easy section Stampin' Up® have also provided some inspiration with a colour wheel & information of various ways to use colour combinations. I explored this in a bit more detail in my 1/1/25 mid week blog. A new mini catalogue is launching in just a few days - January 7th with lots of lovely stamps, dies & papers to ooh & aah over. If you would like a copy of this new catalogue then please contact me at craftedbyalison@gmail.com. Stampin' Up® also have products available only online. These are called Online exclusives & have no end date, when the stock is sold out, that's the end of it.
This week I am sharing a fun fold with you. I love fun folds as they are relatively easy but make a simple card a little bit special, many having a WOW factor involved.
This week's funfold is like 2 cards in one! It's super quick & easy to create & the possibilities are vast. I hope you enjoy.
For this project I started with the DSP so that I could co-ordinate the cardstock colours...
This paper is just gorgeous! It is very reminiscent of Peter Rabbit but with more variety of creatures.
There is also complimentary 6"x6" DSP called Timeless Plaid which I used as one of the mattes.
For the card bases I wanted colours that could be used as a unisex card. The main base is Basic Beige but the colours used in the DSP were not quite what I wanted so I went to my retired stash & chose an old colour called Grapefruit Grove. I then added some Basic White for a writing matte.
The dimensions for each of the elements of the card are:
Base - Basic Beige measuring 14.85cm x 29.7cm. I scored it at 14.85 then trimmed 5cm from the side.
2nd card base - Grapefruit Grove measuring 16cm x 10.5cm, scored at 8cm.
Inside matte - Grapefruit Grove measuring 14.35cm x 14.35cm
Front panel matte - Grapefruit Grove measuring 14.35cm x 9.35cm
Inside writing panel - Basic White measuring 10cm x 7.5cm
I then selected one design from the Timeless Plaid DSP, cutting one to 13.85cm x 13.85cm & a second piece 13.85cm x 8.85cm. Not shown in this picture is another piece of DSP the same size as the front panel & a second Grapefruit Grove panel to attach inside the front panel. I decided to add this once I played around with placement of all of the pieces.
The blue panel in the picture above is one of the panels from the first DSP picture above. I also selected a cute critter to add as the main focal point for the card front. He was raised on dimensionals & came from one of the ephemera sheets below...
The sentiment from Storybook Friends was heat embossed in white directly onto the floral panel.
Next was the assembly process.
The mattes & DSP were all adhered together according to their sizes & attached to the card base.
The Basic White matte was adhered to the smaller card & this was then centred on the base.
The fun part then was fussy cutting some of the images from the DSP & popping out butterflies & greenery from the ephemera sheets. These were adhered to decorate the card front, panel & inside with the butterflies raised on dimensionals.
The butterfly in the centre was positioned so that the smaller card could just pop under it's wing & hold it closed. I love the whimsical nature of it & can't wait to play around with some more versions of this funfold. I'm also looking forward to creating with all of the other elements from the Storybook Moments suite. They will appear in Wednesday's mid week blog & next Sunday's blog as well.
That's it for this creative episode. I hope you enjoyed seeing this gorgeous, whimsical DSP. I'm so in love with this suite.
