Midweek blog#182 - More weaving with paper strips

  Hello & welcome.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

In my 20/8/25 post I shared a card made with scrap strips of DSP. I really enjoyed creating with scraps & loved the finished product so I decided to create a couple of different ways to use woven scraps in 2 new projects. I hope you enjoy them.

Last week I mentioned that I would be showing woven strips that had been embossed but when I was making them I decided to use embossing as a seperate element. I will explore embossing woven strips another time.

Both cards have similar elements - a square of woven paper strips, embossing & a matte, but they are just a little bit different to each other.

The first card has a Cherry Cobbler card base & a Basic White matte. The matte was embossed with the Joined Together folder & has an opening diecut with a Stylish Shapes square. Behind this opening is a matte of woven strips made from Celebratory Sips, Marbled Elegance, Florals in Bloom & Brights 6" x 6" DSPs. Once woven the square was adhered to a Cherry Cobbler matte for a little extra stability & then attached behind the embossed matte & onto the card base.
The sentiment is stamped in Cherry Cobbler, with some clear embossing powder added to lift the colour a little more, using the Beautiful Butterflies & Mixed Labels stamp sets & then diecut with the Mixed Labels dies. This was then added to the card with dimensionals & the card was finished. No embellishments were added as the embossing is the hero of this card.

The second card has a Pretty Peacock base & a Basic White matte which has some Pretty Peacock lightly bended on it. It has the same DSP but this time it is matted on Pretty Peacock to match the card base & is added over another Pretty Peacock matte which is embossed with the Glass & Gardens embossing folder.
The sentiment, from Simply Said & Mixed Labels, is stamped directly onto the matte in Pretty Peacock.
A few Party Dots were added as well and that was another simple but elegant card completed!

Both of these cards were pretty simple to create but I think the woven element along with the embossing gives them a little more WOW.

That's all I have for you today. I hope you've enjoyed this second look at using strips of DSP to weave a unique element for your creations.
My next blog is on Sunday where I will show you how to use embossing directly onto DSP to create some stunning cards.
My next midweek blog features some sketches for tags from the Stampin' Up® catalogues. These are always handy for gift giving & especially as we head into the festive period.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
