Midweek blog #178 - Weaving with scraps to create a matte for your cards

 Hello & welcome.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com. Throughout this post there will be some links to my online store if you would like to purchase any of the products I feature. Just click on the blue hyperlinks & it will take you directly to my store.

This week I have another crafty way to use up scraps in your projects. This is a super quick post as it's made with what you have on hand. It's a bright, fun card that uses 1.5cm scraps that are woven together to give a gorgeous backdrop for a sentiment & image. I hope you like it!

First of all I selected some DSP (the gorgeous Brights 6"x 6" from the current catalogue) that had some offcut strips & then cut a few more to ensure I had enough for the project...

Once I had the strips in the order that I wanted, I started to do some basic weaving...

I applied some glue to the edges of the strips where they met strips underneath them then trimmed them down to fit a card base...

This whole piece was then adhered at a slight angle to the Basic White card base...

I then heat embossed a sentiment from Beautiful Butterflies on Berry Burst cardstock & mounted it on dimensionals, then added a vellum butterfly I had made with the Beautiful Butterflies die for a previous project. The die is part of the hybrid die/embossing folder. It has some score lines along the body to give a 3D effect then was adhered with some Tear'n'tape which is invisible.

That's as easy as it can get I reckon! And you're using up scraps.

So that's all I have for you today, I hope it inspires you to get out some of those scraps & have a play with this fun & easy technique.

My next blog is on Sunday & features a beautiful suite called Floral Delight then next week's mid week blog has a Centre Step funfold design.

I hope you can join me for both of them.

If you have any questions about this card or any other posts then please feel free to email me at craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
