Mid week blog#193 - Make ahead Slider Gift Card Holders
Hello & welcome to my blog.
My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.
For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!
Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.
In last week's blog I shared a way to have gift bags on hand, ready for any last minute gifting need with fold flat gift bags that just need a little bit of glue & they're good to go.
This week I am sharing a similar way to have gift card holders on hand. The idea came from a Youtube post I saw by May May Made It. There are some amazing ideas & projects there if you enjoy learning new techniques & designs!
Anyway, onto this week's creation.
This project uses around 1/2 a piece of DSP which is quite economical but it's also a great way to use up your stash and can be co-ordinated with a greeting card with the same DSP.
Here are pictures of a prepped slider as well as some completed sliders.
Below are the instructions for you to create your own. The instructions are in inches as that was how MayMay showed the project & it worked perfectly. If it aint broke, don't fix it!
May May Made It Prep projects
Slider Gift Card holder
Box (card pocket) section: Cut pattern paper (design 1) to 7.5" x 4" and score on the 7.5" side at 3.75".
Slider piece: Cut pattern paper (design 1) to 3" x 4.5" then score at
1/2" very lightly (this is will be for glueing reference) and 4".
Lid Section (pull top): Cut pattern paper (design 2) to 4.5" x 2" and then score on the 2" side at 1".
Bow: Cut 1 piece of pattern paper (looks good to use design 2 paper to match the lid) to 1" x 8" plus 1 piece of 1" x 3.5" and 2 1” x 3” pieces - all of these pieces will make the bow & tails. ##To save storage space you can score the 9” piece in half.
Assembly (partial)
Box section: Fold the paper in half & score strongly. Apply liquid adhesive to the very edges on both sides & adhere - this gives you an envelope of sorts that the slider will go into.
Slider piece: Fold the 4” score line up to create a stopper for the gift card to rest on when closed. Set aside for now.
Lid Section (pull top): Fold the paper in half & burnish well. Apply glue to the top of the slider piece where the light score line is & centre on the lid section. Apply glue to the rest of the lid section & adhere down.
At this point you can store the card holder away.
TO ASSEMBLE WHEN NEEDED:
Score the 1” x 8” strip at 4” (if not done in prep) & gently curl the ends starting at the centre score line to allow the paper to bend slightly when making the bow.
Apply glue either side of the score line & adhere each end in to create the bow. Wrap the 3.5” piece around the centre of the bow & adhere down at the back, covering up the join line.
Dovetail one end of each 1” x 3” piece for the ends of the bow.
Apply to the lid section or under the bow & then adhere the bow.
So that's it for this week's project. I hope you enjoyed it & it is useful for your gift giving.
My next post will be on Sunday where I am creating with the super cute Sweet Jar stamp set & punch bundle.
Next week's mid week post will look at the Everyday Arches dies - a very versatile set of dies.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating.
XX Alison
