Midweek blog#179 - Centre Step funfold card with Cake Celebrations stamps & dies

Hello & welcome.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com. Throughout this post there will be some links to my online store if you would like to purchase any of the products I feature. Just click on the blue hyperlinks & it will take you directly to my store.

When post goes live I will be backstage with dozens of excited primary school kids helping them put on The Wizard of Oz at my old school. For those of you who follow my blog you will know that I very recently retired (then took a lovely break in Queensland to celebrate) but before I retired my school was busy preparing for their musical which they usually hold every 2nd year. As it was so close to when I retired I agreed to return to help out in the role I'd been nominated for - namely to assist backstage.

Wish me luck!!

But on to this week's project.

I love fun folds as they are a great way to create a little WOW to a project & today's funfold is called a Centre Step funfold. I have used a gorgeous mix of Darling Duckling, yellow, & Garden Green with just a splash of bright pinks & some silver.

I hope you enjoy seeing how it was made.

To begin with I gathered my supplies - Darling Duckling, Basic White & Garden Green cardstock, Lovely Garden DSP with Garden Green, Lemon Lime Twist, Darling Duckling, Lemon Lolly, Strawberry Slush, Berry Burst & Smoky Slate inks & silver embossing powder.

I chose the lovely Cake Celebrations stamp set & dies as it's perfect for birthday cards & is on the Last Chance list & I want to make sure you're aware of it in case you need to purchase it before it's gone. Click here to visit my online shop & then find the last chance section in the drop down menu.

Here are some step by step pictures to walk you through the process I used...

Firstly I needed a template. I headed over to Pinterest & my saved emails for inspiration & found that they all seemed to be in Imperial measurement so I came up with a metric version of my own.

Starting with a piece of 28cm x 10.5cm Darling Duckling I marked at 2.5cm, 5.cm & 16.5cm on both of the long sides. I then positioned the cardstock in my trimmer, moved in 2.5cm & cut down from the 16.5cm mark to the 2.5cm mark.

Turning the cardstock 90 degrees I then scored at each of the marked areas from the edges in to the cut line.

The final score line runs between both cut lines at 14cm.

Now for the folding.

At 2.5cm, create a mountain fold.

At 5cm, carefully create a valley fold.

At 14cm create a mountain fold.

At 16.5cm create the final mountain fold.

When you have scored & folded all of the lines then your base should look like this...

For the decoration on the front I cut 4 pieces of Garden Green -
2 strips of 11.1cm x 2.1cm
1 strip of 10.1cm x 2.1cm &
1 11.1cm x 5.1cm piece.
From the Lovely Garden DSP pack I had chosen a very pretty floral print with dainty yellow flowers & green leaves. From this I cut -
2 strips of 10.8cm x 1.8cm &
1 9.8cm x 1.8cm.
# note - when cutting DSP that has a pattern, make sure you check which way the pattern will run for each of the pieces.

I adhered the DSP to the cardstock then adhered them to the side & bottom panels of the card.

The centre panel is where the image & sentiment are placed.
The sentiment is from Cake Celebrations & is stamped in Berry Burst directly onto the Basic White panel.
The cake pieces were stamped in Lemon Lolly & Darling Duckling with some stars stamped onto them in Strawberry Slush.
The flowers were stamped in Berry Burst & Strawberry Slush, the leaves in Garden Green & Lemon Lime Twist.
All were die cut with the Cake Celebrations dies or fussy cut.
The cake stand was stamped in Smoky Slate & had silver embossing powder applied to give it a little sparkle before diecutting.
All pieces were arranged & raised on dimensionals with a little bit of liquid glue for wiggle room & where the flowers touched the cake.
This completed panel was then attached to the card front.
Last but not least, a few Holographic Resin dots were added to the centre of some flowers & around the sentiment.

Here is a side view & closeup of the completed card.

Step cards may appear tricky but once you've done a few they are relatively easy & add a little extra WOW to a fun greeting card.
I loved making this bright, cheerful birthday card & I hope you've enjoyed seeing how it came together & maybe even feel confident to give this fun fold a try yourself. If you do, I would love to see what you come up with so please feel free to shoot me a pic or post one on my facebook page at craftedbyalison.

That's all I have for you in this blog. My next post will be on Sunday where I will be sharing a wedding card created with the Classic Wedding stamps & dies.
My next mid week blog has some quick & easy cards made with the Wildflower Birthday DSP pack which comes with 2 sheets of precut images & a sticker sheet.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating!
XX Alison
