How to use heat embossing on Designer Series Paper

 Hello & welcome.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Stampin' Up® have many ways of shopping with a physical catalogue, online shopping & in person events. When items are about to be retired or are running low they are put on the 'Last Chance' list which means that there is limited stock & when it runs out, it's gone.

In today's post I share a way to combine heat embossing with Designer Series Paper or DSP. This techniques is quite simple & gives a unique finish to your projects. It involves stamping images or sentiments directly onto your DSP using Versamark then covering it with embossing powder & setting it with a heat tool. Here are 2 cards I created using this technique...

There are so many beautiful Designer Series Papers available now & Stampin' Up® have some lovely ones to choose from. Today I am using 2 soft pink toned patterns from the Beautiful Bokeh pack.

The stamps I chose for my 2 cards are Beautiful Butterflies & Elements of Text.

I gathered together my supplies...

then stamped the images & text onto the paper with Versamark, adding white embossing powder & setting it with my heat tool...

My first card has pretty butterflies meandering across the front & I chose to colour in parts of their wings with my Aqua painter, Petunia Pop & Highland Heather inks...

The colours co-ordinated beautifully with the paper & give a stained glass effect to my card...

This matte was added to a Highland Heather matte then a Basic White card base.

I chose a sentiment from Beautiful Butterflies & heat embossed in white on Gorgeous Grape & added with dimensionals. I decided to add some pretty shimmery butterflies made with retired Shimmer Vellum & the Beautiful Butterlies dies. The final touch were a few Iridescent Faceted gems. Here's a closeup of the card front...

For my second card I chose a more bold finish with black embossing...

To begin with I stamped a large text image from the recently retired Elements of Text stamp set & embossed with black powder then added some diecut flowers & foliage in black made with the retired Cheerful Daisies dies.

I then stamped a butterfly from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set & embossed it in black & diecut it.

The embossed card front was backed with a Pool Party matte & added to a Basic White card base.  The butterfly was then added with some dimensionals & sentiment was heat embossed in white.

To finish the card a few of the Itty Bitty Bokeh mix were scattered around for a little bit of sparkle.

And that's it! Quite an easy technique but a lovely effect.

Well, that's if for my creations. I hope you enjoyed this fun & easy way to create. Now it's time to share some news & information from Stampin' Up®.

If you shop with me then there are some new changes to the rewards program that you should know about. In the past we were able to create a host code & group together individual orders & pass on the 'hostess' benefits to customers with qualifying orders. This has now been replaced with a 'Rewards' program that gives all customers who place an order with a qualifying amount a credit of 10% of their order to use on future orders. This will be displayed during the checkout process or your order. Stampin' Up® feel that this is a fairer way of rewarding all customers.
