Mid Week blog #34 Peek-a-boo punching

Hello & welcome to my Mid Week blog,

I am an independant Stampin' Up® demonstrator with a passion for creating. I have a regular weekly blog on a Sunday that explores different stamp sets, die sets or products sold by Stampin' Up® and my Mid Week blog explores tips, techniques, card sketches, colour challenges & lots of other ideas to help you make the most of your crafting time. There are ideas for 'just starting out' crafters, 'in-betweeners' and more avid crafters.

This week I have a technique that allows you to use your punches & DSP in a slightly different way.

I've named it Peekaboo punching as the punch allows details from the matte below the punched cardstock to show through. Here's some I made to show you a few ways to use this technique.

This card is the simplest of the 3. On one piece of DSP I used a heart die from the Give It A Whirl dies to diecut some hearts. I place this over a second piece of cardstock & lightly pencilled around the shape so I would know where to use my inks. I used a blending brush & Orchid Oasis, Parakeet Party/Granny Apple Green, So Saffron/Pumpkin Pie, Sweet Sorbet & Tahitian Tide to create small circles on that piece of Basic White. With some small heart stamps from Kangaroo & Company & Pampered Pets I used Parakeet Party, So Saffron, Tahitian Tide & Orchid Oasis to stamp random hearts in the blank areas. With Orchid Oasis I stamped the 'LOVE' sentiment from Create with Friends. These two layers were glued together then I wrapped some Orchid Oasis Metallic woven ribbon around 2 edges before adhering it to an Orchid Oasis card base.

The second card involved cutting small squares of Expressions in Ink which I glued behind flower shapes diecut using the Many Layered Blossoms dies. This was added to a Rich Razzleberry matte then a Basic White card base. I diecut some flower outlines from the same paper & mounted them with dimensionals in the gaps on the card front. To finish I added a few Brushed Brass Butterflies. I haven't decided if this will be a birthday, thanks or hello card yet so I left off the sentiment.

My final offering started out completely different to what I ended up with! I pictured animals peeking through the holes which turned out to be squirrels & once I'd decided on them it seemed only natural that I should have them peeking out from trees! The DSP is from Beauty of the Earth & the card base is Mossy Meadow. I stamped each animal, including the cute little fox from 'Count on Me' in the areas that would be diecut & stamped the squirrels but hand coloured the fox. To spotlight the animals a little more, I used a Basic White layer then added a layer of DSP with a slightly larger hole that the white layer. This also is waiting for a sentiment. I do love the nature theme of this card.
So that's just a couple of ways to use dies or punches to create a different look for your cards. If you try this technique I would love to see your creations on my Facebook Page at craftedbyalison.
That's if for this week's blog. My Sunday blog this week features the lovely new stamp set, Bottled Happiness together with the cute Vintage Bottle punch. In my Mid Week blog next week I am using different combinations of colours in a colour challenge. I hope you can join me for both of those.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog today, I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions or comments you can send me a message via my Facebook page or email me at craftedbyalison@blogspot.com.
Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
