Time to 'Trim the tree' with the Trimming the tree bundle

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. Today's blog uses co-ordinating stamps and dies that are part of a limited release promotion from Stampin' Up®. For the month of September, Stampin' Up® have paired up 6 stamp sets with matching dies but they're only available during September! Once the month is over the dies will not be available in any catalogues. As there are many people who like to be organised with their Christmas card making I thought this week that Trimming the Tree cards would be perfect to show you the beautifully paired stamp & dies. I hope you like what I've made!

For the first card I started with a simple design of a tree backed with DSP plus a simple sentiment.

On a Basic White card base I layered Mossy Meadow then some retired specialty DSP from my stash. I chose a Mossy Meadow & copper holly pattern that was in the Brightly Gleaming pack for the top & pretty green splotches from Ever Eden at the bottom. I then diecut a piece of glimmery copper paper that I was gifted with the Scalloped Contour dies. This formed the base for the tree & sentiment.
The stamp set has a main tree with areas left plain plus a stamp with the reverse of that - the fill-in or highlight stamp. I stamped the main tree in Granny Apple Green then went over it with Pear Pizzazz, a very subtle change in colour, for the 'fill-in' stamp. The stamp set co-ordinates with Tree Trimmings dies which are a special offer for September only as part of the Perfect Partners promotion. I ran the tree through the diecuting machine & it basically cuts around the 'fill-in' area of the tree.

This is where it got a little fiddly. To create a more interesting 3D effect for the tree I used 2 layers of dimensionals for the diecut areas & 1 layer of dimensionals for the outline of the tree. This raised up areas of the tree that were already highlighted with the white background & Pear Pizzazz ink a little higher. The sentiment was heat embossed with copper embossing powder. I love how simple the card is & how it turned out.

With the second card I wanted something a little non traditional. I stayed close to traditional colours with green & red but chose the bright new Parakeet Party as the green along with Real Red.
I saw a card with a wreath made from ornaments & knew that that design was the one for this card. I started it by using a die from the Layering Circles dies to trace around. This formed the shape that I stamped all four of the tiny ornaments around.

The colours I chose were Mint Macaron, Real Red, So Saffron & Parakeet Party. Once the wreath was finished, I carefully rubbed out any pencil marks then added a few Rhinestone Waves jewels & a cute little bow made with the Playful pets real red stitched grosgrain ribbon. This was then mounted on a piece of Real Red cardstock. I ran a piece of Parakeet Party through the embossing machine using the Winter Snow embossing folder. I left approx. 1cm around this layer to give a good visual difference.

On to the final card. Super simple to make!

Using Basic White I stamped 3 Christmas trees using Evening Evergreen & Granny Apple Green. Over the top of this I used the garland stamp & Real Red. A Daffodil Delight star on the top & that's the trees done. A strip of Daffodil Delight over the middle of the trees has the sentiment stamped in Evening Evergreen & some Glossy Dots added. And that's the end of the card!

As you can see from the photos, I've added detailing to each of the envelopes for a little added extra.

So that's it for another week. I had so much fun creating these cards this week & I hope you enjoyed checking out my creations. Thanks for popping in. My next Mid Week blog on Wednesday shows you a different easel fun fold I found. Next week's regular blog will feature slimline cards. I hope you can join me for both of these blogs.
