Midweek blog#184 - Exploring colour combinations

Hello & welcome to my blog.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Today I am sharing some creations I made using colour combinations inspired by Connie Stewart at Simply Simple Stamping. She create a DIY Colour Coach with it's own storage box which inspired me to create one of my own. If you would like to see her original post you can find it here.

To create them I downloaded all of the sheets that Connie had provided in her blog post then cut them & matted them on their appropriate cardstock colours. There is also a link here to download them from my Stampin' Up® website. I haven't made the storage box yet - that's a project for another day.

Here are all of the cards fanned out to show you the variety of colour combinations that can be made...

The cards give you suggestions of different colour combinations for each of the colours that Stampin' Up® carry (apart from Basic White & Black & Very Vanilla). It's a handy little ready reference to help you with ideas.

With the Colour Coach cards completed I then chose the Summer Splash card to create a scrapbook page using Summer Splash, Pretty Peacock & Crumb Cake.

Here is the colour card...

and here is the completed scrapbook page...

The idea behind this page is to document one of my son's overseas trips so I chose woodgrain DSP from Country Woods. I also seem to have chosen a lot of "3's" - you'll see what I mean in my instructions. 😁

On a Basic White 12" x 12" sheet I added a 3" strip of Summer Splash double sided DSP that had been torn in half to the top & bottom of the page.

Crumb Cake hearts from the Tags To Go stamp set were added to the strips at random.

Three scraps of Country Woods DSP were added - 2 as off centre backings for the photo mattes & one for the sentiment matte.

Three 3 3/4" x 4 1/4" Pretty Peacock mattes were added next for photo placements.

Three Crumb Cake tags were diecut with the Tags To Go dies with the edges brushed with Crumb Cake ink & some scrap twine tied into the holes. See? A lot of threes! 😁

The final step was to add some stamping in Pretty Peacock - a sentiment from Tags To Go with some directional locater symbols & then some arrows from the On The Go Puffy Stickers pack which match Summer Splash perfectly.

Such a quick & easy page layout that came together quickly but was made easy with the Colour Chart cards as a starting point.

That's all I have for your this week. I hope you enjoyed learning one way to use the Colour Chart cards to help with your projects. I know that I will be using them a lot now that I have my own set!

My next post will be on Sunday when I will be sharing some lovely creations made with the Glass & Gardens embossing folder as a feature.

In my next mid week blog I have something a little different for you - double embossing!

I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
