Nothing's Better than....Candy Canes!

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create some beautiful cards using two stamp sets for the one creation - Nothing's Better Than..... and Sweet Candy Canes.

Here are the two completed cards. One is for a birthday or special occasion the other is for Christmas. Neither of them have candy canes on & I did this on purpose to show that the stamp sets can be used in lots of ways & not always as you first thought!

The first card I made kept to the Christmas theme but with a twist. Starting with some Evening Evergreen cardstock I added a matte of Sweetest Christmas DSP. I used the sentiment from Sweet Candy Canes but added cookies & hot chocolate instead of canes. They cookies & drink were stamped onto some leftover circles from a previous post, made using the Give It A Whirl dies. The colours used are Early Espresso & Crumb Cake. I embossed a piece of Kraft cardstock using the Wintery 3D embossing folder then stamped the steam wisps for the hot chocolate directly onto that using Crumb Cake.

One of the cookies sits slightly higher by adding some mini glue dots. The sentiment is also stamped in Early Espresso then I die cut it using the Tasteful Labels dies with an Evening Evergreen tag behind it. This has a piece of retired Snowflake Splendour ribbon behind it then is raised on dimensionals. The final touch was a few retired Genial Gems gives it a little bit of bling.

For the second card I decided to create something not related to candy canes or Christmas. I love the cocktail stamp from Nothing's Better Than... so decided that that would be the focus of the card. The sentiment is from Sweet Candy Canes.

The base uses Parakeet Party & when scoring I scored at 2.5cm & 12cm to create a different fun fold. The 2.5cm fold was glued down & a piece of 14.4cm x 7.6cm Basic White was used to fill the space. I cut some Silver & Gold Specialty DSP from Sale-A-Bration earlier this year. I chose the silver rather than the gold as it co-ordinated nicely with the colours of the card. The front & inside pieces measure 14.4cm x 7.6cm (same as the Basic white inside). I then chose Magenta Madness for a big pop of colour as the matte for the image & sentiment. The matte measures 11.4cm x 8.4cm & the Basic White measures 11cm x 8cm.

Now onto the stamping. I stamped the outline of the cocktail glass in Smokey Slate on the inside of the card but I chose lots of bright coloured inks for the image - Magenta Madness, Parakeet Party, Pumpkin Pie & Daffodil Delight. I chose a subtle stamp from Gorgeous Leaves for the background of the cocktail glass & stamped off to mute the Parakeet Party. This allows the colour of the cocktail to still shine through. I continued on with Smokey Slate for the sentiment & outline of each image as it teamed better with the silver of the DSP. The fruit pieces were created using the masking technique then fussy cut. A couple of them have mini glue dots to raise them just a little above the others.
Before attaching the front piece I attached a loop of Magenta Madness In Colour ribbon to the back then added dimensionals to the area of the matte that covered the front. This loop allows you to open the card easily. Surprisingly there is no bling on this card! But I think the silver in the DSP makes up for it.

I hope that you've enjoyed this week's blog & will join me again on Wednesday to see a gorgeous gift giving idea. I have created an Octagonal Box that I saw on Rachel Tessman's blog, Stamp Your Art Out. It is absolutely gorgeous & a lot easier to make than it looks. In next week's blog I will have some more creations made with the Merriest Moments set as promised. I hope you can join me for both of them.

That's it for another week. Thanks so much for stopping by. If you would like to order any of the supplies I used today you can head over to my Stampin' Up® shop using the links below. Please note that there are some supplies I used this week that are not available any more as they are retired stock. That doesn't mean you can't recreate your own version of these cards though! Just swap out the retired items for whatever you have in your stash.

If you would like to purchase any of my creations that I feature in my blogs they can be found in my FaceBook shop at craftedbyalison or you can or order something unique.

If you would like me to send you a catalogue then please message me via my FaceBook page, Crafted by Alison or send me an email at craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Thanks for stopping by, til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
