Scrappy Christmas trees - making gorgeous cards using scraps

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create a card with a Christmas tree made from cut offs and scraps. This is a super easy process plus it helps to use up scraps & leftover pieces. Score!

For the first card I started with an Evening Evergreen base & then popped on a matte of Brushed Metallic gold foil cardstock. I then used scraps from the Ever Eden DSP pack with just a little piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock near the top of the tree & a scrap of Early Espresso for the tree trunk.

As the DSP is thinner than the cardstock adhered the strips slightly angled to the trunk with some liquid glue but I added mini glue dots to the areas that hung away from the trunk so that they were a similar height. All I needed then was a simple sentiment from the Trees for Sale stamp set & a gold star for the top of the tree using the Brushed Metallic cardstock and was diecut using the Tree Trimming dies. And that's the card done!

The second card has a little more detail. I started with a Basic White card base then ran a piece of Real Red cardstock through the embossing machine, using the Winter Snow embossing folder. I stamped the base of the tree in Early Espresso using the vase stamp from Bottled Happiness & then used various sizes of Sweetest Christmas DSP plus some strips of Shaded Spruce & Real Red cardstock for the layers of the branches. The Real Red had also been embossed to tie in with the matte. The Shaded Spruce bottom branch has a sentiment from Words of Cheer heat embossed in white. To finish off the background is stamped in Pool Party using the dotted splatter stamp from Merriest Moments & a gold star is added to the top. Both cards have a thin scrap of DSP inside as well.

I had a lot of fun creating these cards & love that it also uses up scraps. I hope that you've enjoyed this week's blog & will join me again on Wednesday when I will be sharing how to create a faux tile design. In next week's blog I will be featuring a lovely coastal themed cards made with the Lighthouse Point stamp set & matching dies. I hope you can join me for both of them.

That's it for another week. Thanks so much for stopping by. If you would like to order any of the supplies I used today you can head over to my Stampin' Up® shop using the links below. Please note that there are some supplies I used this week that are not available any more as they are retired stock. That doesn't mean you can't recreate your own version of these cards though! Just swap out the retired items for whatever you have in your stash.
