Mid week blog #118 - Adhesives guide - what to use & how to use it.

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

This week I have a guide for you on what adhesives Stampin' Up® have and what to use them on. Using the right adhesives on your projects is important as you don't want all that time, effort & beauty to fall apart with the wrong combination of supplies & adhesives. So that you can get the most out of your adhesives & make strong projects that survive the postal system & time here is a handy table to help you work it out.

In addition to this list of Stampin' Up® products there are also tape runners, adhesive dots, adhesive sheets, glue pens, glue bottles & a new one for me, the glue press. This last one is quite popular right now, being used & promoted by well known Stampin' Up demonstrators such as Lisa Curcio & Kylie Bertucci. It is a large, hand-held glue gun that pops into a stand when not in use & is sealed when placed correctly on a rubber spot at the base of the stand. Mine is on the way & I'm really looking forward to trying it out. My top four adhesives are Liquid Adhesive, or 'Green Glue', Tear & Tape, Mini Glue Dots & Dimensionals. These three are the most used when I need to create something that will last.

Here's a quick summary of why they are my favourites:

1. Liquid Adhesive - probably the most versatile of all the glues, it is applied wet & dries pretty quickly but allows you a little bit of 'wiggle' room when you need to adhere things just right. The narrow tip of the bottle allows you to apply a thin line of glue or you can flip the bottle over to find a broad tip that wipes a wider line of glue onto your projects.
2. Tear & Tape - this roll of double sided tape is just over 6cm wide & the roll is 24.7m long so lasts a long time. To use you simply unroll the length you need (I use small pieces evenly spaced around a matte), apply to the project then remove the backing & it's ready to adhere.
3. Mini Glue Dots - As I like to layer embellishments & images at different heights the glue dots are perfect for creating a variety of heights. You can apply one for a little dimension or add multiple dots to raise more & more until you have the height you want. They are also great when you have a sentiment that will be layered over an image that needs a Dimensional on one end but something smaller over the image.
4. Dimensionals - A must have for giving 3D dimension to your projects - raising mattes on a base, added multiple images in a scene or popping up a sentiment. As mentioned, when used with glue dots, you have so many different height variations at your fingertips.

I hope this has been a help for you, whether you have been crafting for a long time or new to it, having knowledge about what to use & how to use it can make your crafting experience more enjoyable. If you would like more information about using any of the Stampin' Up® products then you can drop me an email at craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

That's all I have for you this week. My next blog is on Sunday & (Postie delivery arriving on time 🤞) I will have a brand new, beautiful stamp & die set & stunning DSP to share with you called Citrus Blooms that is one of the stars of the new Annual Catalogue.
Next week's mid week blog is a new technique for me. I will be trying out creating with embossing paste. This is something I haven't tried before but I'm looking forward to learning something new & sharing it with you.
Til next week, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
