Mid Week blog#121 - Split DSP design - using DSP in a different way

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

This week I am using DSP in a different way by using 2 different DSP patterns & 'splitting' it into 3 parts to create a unique card front. This is a great way to showcase DSP on cards as well as using it up if you, like me, tend to have a little more than you should in your stash. I hope you enjoy this method.

I used two pieces of DSP to created these 3 cards. Here are the dimensions & initial cuts.

I then split the pieces up & mix & matched them. My first play around with the Peach Pie & Shy Shamrock strips resulted in the following card base...

Using that base I flipped it on it's side & mounted it on a Shy Shamrock card. I then added a sentiment, a bow & some bling & the card was finished. The sentiment & foliage was stamped in Whisper White on Basic Black cardstock using Happiness Abounds, Layering Leaves & Country Bouquet stamp sets & was diecut with the new Greetings of the Season dies. The embellishments are Adhesive Backed Sparkle gems & Silver 1/8" trim. Here is the finished card...

For my next card I used the two leftover Shy Shamrock strips on a Basic White card base, adding a diecut from Flight & Airy DSP, backed with a Berry Burst matte. I chose the Stylish Shapes dies as they have a lots of gradiated shapes. The sentiment, from Layering Leaves is stamped in Berry Burst directly onto the base. To finish I added a small bow made with White Diagonal Trim ribbon & some 2022-24 In Colour pearls. Another simple but effective card. I also added some DSP to the envelope to add some WOW.

My final card is probably my favourite of the three. On a Peach Pie base I added a Basic Black matte. With the last piece of Peach Pie DSP I flipped it to the reverse pattern & added some Peach Pie, Pale Papaya & Pumpkin Pie daisies made with the Hooray For Surprises as well as some foliage diecut with the matching dies. The sentiment is from Layering Leaves, stamped in Memento Black & fussy cut.

That's all I have for you this week. My next blog is on Sunday & I will be showcasing a cute stamp & die bundle called Filled With Fun.
In next week's mid week blog I will share another one of the free card sketches that are featured in the Annual catalogue. I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next week, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
