Hello & welcome to my blog,
My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.
Today I take a look at another of the colour combinations that feature in the Annual Catalogue this year. Stampin' Up® have a section that highlights how to use colour combinations in different ways. There is a colour wheel with additional inspiration in the form of different ways to use the colour wheel. There is Monochromatic, Complementary, Analogous & Triadic. In my May 29th 2024 Mid Week post I looked at Analogous combinations, this week I am looking at Complementary which takes colours opposite each other on the wheel. Here is my creation...
Now here are some images from the catalogue to show what the colour wheel is and the different combinations...
To create the card above I started with a Basic White card base & chose Lemon Lime Twist & Petunia Pop as the two Complimentary colours from the colour wheel. I added a layer of Brights DSP then a layer of Petunia Pop that was embossed with one of the Basics 3D embossing folders.
The next step was stamping an image & sentiment from the Silly Goose stamp set & colouring it in with Lemon Lime Twist & Petunia Pop. I die cut it with the Layering Diorama dies as well as a matte of Lemon Lime Twist. These were adhered together then added to the card front. The final touch was some 2023-25 In Colour dots & the card was finished.
I love the bright contrast of these two colours together & the DSP & embossed element give the card a little bit more WOW!
If you decide to create a card yourself using this method I would love to see it. Please feel free to pop over to my Facebook page at Crafted by Alison & post a pic.
That's all I have for you this week. My next blog is on Sunday & I will feature another super cute stamp set called Sweet Peas. I previously featured this stamp set in my blog on
May 26th 2024 where I CASE'd the catalogue but this time I create a card & gift box for a work friend's first baby.
In next week's mid week blog I will share a cute card design that is very versatile for whatever stamps & DSP you have on hand.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next week, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
