Midweek blog #126 - Fun fold Concertina card with DSP

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I have a different way of using DSP that creates a funfold. Check it out...

I created 2 different versions of the fun fold, one more masculine & one more feminine. When folded they are the same size as a regular card but when you open them up...

So I'll start with the masculine card first.

There is a single sheet of Basic Beige cardstock as the 'base', then a matte of Pebbled Path. Next is a 14.85cm x 30.5cm piece of Country Woods DSP, scored at 9.7cm, 17.3cm & 24.9cm. This gives a tiered effect to the concertina fold. I burnished all of the folds well & glued down the final fold, giving the card a contrast pattern for the first layer. To this layer I added a Pebbled Path matte measuring 11cm x 7.5cm. The next step was to create a Basic White which I added some fussy cut tools from the February Sale-A-Bration Trusty Tools DSP. The sentiment & nails are from the Vintage Tools stamp set. There's also a grey lead pencil added to the bottom of the Pebbled Path matte plus some Cork Rounds to finish the front.

To complete the inside, I attached 2 pieces of Basic White measuring 7.1cm x 10.6cm which had more fussy cut tools & some stamping. Nearly all of the tool pieces are edge pieces from the DSP to show you that you don't have to waste much.

The second card is a very pretty card & has a slightly different layout to the first.
I started with a Flirty Flamingo base, adding a matte of Gold Brushed Metallic cardstock then a piece of Most Adored DSP. The folds are the same as the first card but this time I didn't glue the front layer down.

The stamp set this time is Cake Fancy & is so much fun to work with. The cake stand is stamped in Wild Wheat with some clear embossing powder over the top. The cake is Flirty Flamingo while the berries are Sweet Sorbet, the meringue is Real Red & the foliage is Garden Green & Gold embossed. I decided to heat emboss the sentiment for a vibrant finish & punched it out using the retired Double Oval punch before raising it slightly on glue dots. Once the cake was assembled I raised it up on dimensionals on Basic White and Gold circle layers. This was only adhered to the card on one half, where it met the DSP.

The inside of the card has 3 Basic White circles, one for each layer & each is decorated with fruits & meringues. Two of the circles also have small sentiments. All of the circles were diecut with the Stylish Shapes dies.
I have to say, even though it took longer to create, with the images on both cards being fussy cut, I do love the extra dimension it all gives to the cards.

That's it for this card technique. I hope you enjoyed learning a simple way to add a little WOW to a card. If you decide to try this technique I would love to see what you make so please feel free to pop over to my Facebook page at craftedbyalison & post a pic.

My next blog is on Sunday where I will be sharing creations made with the Friends for Life stamp set.
Next Wednesday's mid week blog is colouring! I get to play with the Country Flowers stamp set & colour, colour, colour. 😁
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
