Midweek blog #139 - Rustic Christmas kit card alternatives pt 1

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

I LOVE using kits to create quick & easy cards, home decor or gift tags & party stationery. This week I am using a kit that is designed as an advent calendar but after watching a couple of people create alternatives, in particular, Rachel Tessman here I decided to use the kit to create some Christmas cards instead. It was loads of fun. My kids are way too old for advent calendars and I don't have any grandkids, yet!, I created cards instead as there's always a need for more Christmas cards at this time of year. I hope you enjoy what I have created.

Here is what you will find inside the kit. There is no stamping, just envelopes, numbers, images & embellishements, adhesives & a big bag of pegs! There's also an instruction sheet to show you how to create the envelopes to make an advent calendar.
But. As I said, I wanted to create cards instead, so here are 4 cards I made using the supplies plus some extra Basic White, Early Espresso & Cherry Cobbler cardstock.

Aren't they cute? The envelopes that are included in the kit have been used as the main front of the card by applying adhesive to the flap & securing it between the coloured cardstock matte & the Basic White base. The images on the front are all from the kit but the sentiments come from Greetings of the Season, Christmas Labels & Decorative Trees which are all current sets plus there is a little sprig of greenery inside 2 of the cards from Poinsettia Petals which is retired. The sentiment shapes were made with a 2" punch & the Heartfelt Hexagon punch.

The inside of the card has a piece of Basic White with either a further sentiment or an image. All of them have some blended ink for a little focal interest. This piece is completely hidden when the card front is closed, creating a little surprise for the recipient when they open it up!
As you can see from the picture above the envelope front, as it is opened up, also gives you a sneaky gift card pocket.

These cards were really quick to put together & while I was crafting them my mind was racing with ideas of what else I could do with the supplies from the kit. So, with that in mind I decided to make this blog part 1 & create more cards for a part 2. This will be next week's Midweek blog.

That's all I have for you this week. I will be back on Sunday to share a Split Front funfold with you.
In next week's mid week blog I will share more of the card alternatives from the Rustic Christmas kit.
I hope you can join me for both of them.

That's all I have for you this week. Til next time, take care & keep crafting!

XX Alison
