Midweek blog #149 - Colour Challenge!

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

The colour challenge I have for you today is CI#180 from Colour INKspiration challenge & includes Petunia Pop, Basic Beige & Pecan Pie. The purpose of the challenge is to help you create with colours that you may not normally combine. The rules of the challenge are that you must include these three colours in your project but you may also add Basic White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Basic Black and metallics to your project. Here is what I have created using the challenge colours and the Filled with Fun stamps & dies.

The card base is Basic White & has a Pecan Pie matte. I then chose a matte of Basic White for the main image to rest on.

I blended some Petunia Pop to give a softer background behind the cart then created a partial brick road by placing the cardstock in the retired Brick & Mortar embossing folder then placing the top embossing machine plate only over the bottom section of the cardstock. This technique allows you to achieve an embossed surface only where you want it.

The next step was to blend some Pecan Pie over the bricks then a little splatter with Pecan Pie. That's the base done.

The card is stamped in Pecan Pie on Pecan Pie then diecut with the Filled with Fun dies. The wheels are Memento Black on Basic White & the handle is Silver Foil. The presents & cake were stamped in Memento Black then coloured with Blends, Markers & a water painter in Petunia Pop, Pecan Pie & Sahara Sand as there is no Basic Beige markers or blends. I did use some Basic Beige with the water painter on the presents.

The balloons are stamped in first & second generation Petunia Pop with some heat embossed in silver. There are a few little hearts added which are diecut from silver embossed Petunia Pop.

To arrange the whole image I firstly stamped some balloon strings in Memento Black directly onto the matte, where I wanted the balloons to end up & attached them with dimensionals.

The cart items were then assembled by glueing the presents & cake behind the cart. I stamped an extra flag, coloured it & diecut it. The sentiment is from Carousel Horses & each word was stamped separately on the flags. The second flag was attached behind the cart & the whole image was then raised on dimensionals. The final touch were some 2024-26 In Colour Resin dots & some Wink of Stella splattered all over the card.

I love how this has turned out & hope you like it too.

That's all I have for you today. Thanks for visiting my blog, especially 'repeat offenders'! I appreciate your support. If you would like me to show you a particular technique, style of stamping or product then please, drop me a line at craftedbyalison@gmail.com & I'll do my best.

My next blog is on Sunday where I will share some more creations made with the Filled with Fun stamps & dies.
Next week's mid week blog will feature a card sketch, my first for the year. Card sketches are a great way to help you get outside of your comfort zone or inspire you when you have a creative block.
I hope you can join me for both of these blogs. Til next time, take care & keep creating.
XX Alison
