Mid week blog#151 - Making multiple cards using the Mix'n'match method

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Sometimes you need to create more than one card & want a quick & easy way of doing this. That's exactly what I have for you in this post. I call it the Mix'n'match method as you cut multiple sheets of DSP at once then mix and match them in different combinations. Here's what I mean...

These four cards were created from four trimmed down pieces of 6" x 6" By the Bay DSP which is retired but still one of my favourites.

I chose these 4 pieces as they are a nice mix of dark & light, patterns & images. All of the pieces are kept together when trimming so that they are all exactly the same size.

The 6" x 6" DSP is trimmed down (in cm's) to 13.4cm x 9cm. The excess, pictured above, will be used on other projects.
I then trimmed those pieces down into 4 different sizes - 5cm x 5cm, 4.5cm x 4cm, 5cm x 8.4cm & 5cm x 8.9cm.

Now is when you 'mix'n'match' all of the pieces & select a contrast matte & card base colour. The easiest way is to take one layer from each cut piece & shuffle them underneath until you have 4 unique combinations.

I chose Crumb Cake & Night of Navy as the mattes & Crumb Cake, Night of Navy, Pool Party & Orchid Oasis for the bases. I shuffled each of the DSP pieces around on the mattes until I was happy with the combination then adhered them.
Here are the finished cards before the sentiments were added...

For the sentiments I chose Friends For Life, Flower Cart, Layering Leaves & Beach Day stamps as each of those sets had a sentiment that fitted inside the Perennial Postage die that I had chosen plus they fitted in nicely as birthday or best wishes cards. These were all stamped in Night of Navy on Very Vanilla. Which gave me the final result...

I chose not to add any embellishments as some of the DSP has a pearly, holographic effect which gives a little bling effect & the patterns are quite bold.

So that's all I have for you in this post. My next post will be on Sunday & I will be sharing some more creations from the Storybook Friends bundle then in next week's midweek post I share how to create ribbons & embellishments in any colour you need. I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next time, thanks for dropping in, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
