Mid Week blog #156 - Colouring with re-inkers

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Lately I've taken a bigger interest in colouring. I find it calming & a lovely way to create unique projects. One way that I have coloured is by using re-inkers. A little bit of ink is dropped onto an acrylic block then  by adding a few drops of water from a water painter you have a simple way of painting your images.

These are the cards I created with this method...

Here are the steps I used to create my cards.

I chose Shy Shamrock & Peach Pie as my ink colours & some retired Beautifully Penned DSP as it was a black & white print, perfect for this project. The tools are acrylic blocks & a water painter.

Starting with a few drops of Shy Shamrock I gently squeezed a few drops of water from the painter & mixed the ink to dilute it.

This gave me a LOT of colour, more than I needed so when I added the Peach Pie to the block I used only 2 drops. To create a darker centre I also added a tiny bit of Terracotta Tile ink to mix.

Of course, Peach Pie was needed more than the Shy Shamrock so I ended up mixing up more in order to complete all of the flowers. I added a small amount of the Terracotta Tile to the centres & the DSP was complete. I then trimmed the paper to create the 2 cards.

Card number 1 has a Shy Shamrock base with a Basic Black matte that has 2 pieces of DSP - half the watercoloured piece & another half a different pattern from the Beautifully Penned pack. As I don't have Shy Shamrock ribbon I got out my Stampin' Blend markers & coloured in some Faux Linen ribbon to wrap around the join of the two DSP pieces.
For the sentiment, from Country Bouquet, I heat embossed in black on Basic White then diecut a Peach Pie matte using the Everyday Details dies.

Card number 2 uses a bigger piece of the painted DSP adhered directly onto a piece of Basic Black. I left a section of Basic Black bigger enough for the sentiment, also from Country Bouquet, to be heat embossed in white. I added some Champagne Iridescent dots next to the sentiment & in the centres of the larger flowers. This card has a "You're Absolutely Amazing" sentiment inside as I wanted to use it for one of the teachers at work who is 'amazing'.
Two very simple cards that look great made from one small piece of DSP. This colouring technique is a great way to spruce up DSP but is also a great way to colour stamped images.

That's all I have for you today. I hope you enjoyed looking at a different way of colouring. My next blog is on Sunday & I have a lovely scrapbook page for you, the first of 2 pages. Next week in my Midweek blog I will be showing you how to make a Split Negative card. I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
