Mid Week blog#166 - How to use scrappy strips as a feature element on your creations

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today's card uses scrap strips of DSP or cardstock as a focal point. It's an easy way to use up small strips of DSP & create a unique feature on your projects. I learnt this technique when I attended the Creativate Spring '25 online retreat recently.

Firstly, I gathered all of the supplies specified - Fresh Freesia, Berry Burst, Basic White & Gorgeous Grape cardstock, Gorgeous Grape ink, Full of Life DSP & the Textured Notes stamp set.

The base is Fresh Freesia & there is a Fresh Freesia matte, .5cm smaller than the card base which the DSP strips are adhered to. I also cut a 10cm x 7cm Berry Burst matte & 9cm x 6cm Gorgeous Grape matte.

The DSP & Berry Burst strips are .5cm x 12cm (approx) & there are 2 Basic White mattes - 1 cut to 8.5cm x 5.5cm for the front stamping & the other cut to 14.45cm x 10cm for the inside of the card.

Once all of the materials were ready it was simply a matter of stamping, adhering, & layering.
The DSP strips were adhered diagonally to the corners of the Fresh Freesia matte along with a strip of Berry Burst.
I chose Gorgeous Grape for stamping the images & sentiments from Textured Notes & then layered all of the three smaller mattes together before raising them on dimensionals.

The finishing touch was to add some 2024-26 In Colour Shimmer gems & to stamp some of the foliage onto the inside matte & an envelope.

I love this technique as it's quick & easy & allows you to use up small scrappy strips that might otherwise go into the recycle bin.
That's all I have for you for this blog. My next blog is on Sunday & features a fun fold from the same online retreat that this technique came from.
My next Mid Week blog will feature one of the beautiful DSP's from Stampin' Up®.
I hope you can join me for both of them but until next time, take care & keep creating!
XX Alison
