Mid week blog #170 - Funfold with an aviation theme

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Today I have created a cute funfold which is perfect for the male in your life or for those who love old planes. There are two versions as I was making this card for a swap & wanted to see two different colour variations.

In this picture are the 4 cards I created. Three have silver wings & engine made with retired Silver Foil specialty foil & one has Copper Clay wings & engine. I decided after making both versions that the silver version was the one for the swap but I really like the brown version as I think it is more true to reality.

Here are the details of how it was made...

1. Start with a regular A5 card base - 14.85cm x 21cm, scored at 10.5cm - I chose Copper Clay.

2. Add a 14.35cm x 10cm piece of DSP - I chose Take to the Sky.

3. The funfold part of the card is a pocket on the front of the card that measures 20cm x 13.35cm in the same colour cardstock. There are 2 score lines at 9.5cm & 19cm, leaving a 1cm section to fold behind. Before folding it over though, you measure 6cm down from the right hand side (where the last score line is then turn it & cut diagonally from the first score line down to the mark.

4. Apply glue to the flap as well as a small amount to the bottom so that the pocket is sealed.

5. Next, cut a 12.8 x 9cm piece of co-ordinating DSP & repeat the diagonal cut process, marking the DSP at 5cm instead & apply to the front of the pocket.

The tag inside the pocket is diecut from Basic White using the retired Greetings of the Season dies then stamped a background in Cloud Cover with a sentiment in Basic Gray using the Adventurous Sky stamp set. I then chose two colours from the retired Natural Tones thread to tie at the top.

The plane body is Misty Moonlight, embossed with the crosshatch patterned folder from the Basics 3D folder pack. The wings & engine are Copper Clay & carefully glued to the body using the amazing My Sweet Petunia glue gun which has a super fine nozzle that allows you to be very precise with placement.
The plane was added with some dimensionals.

A Basic White matte was added to the inside with some matching stamping & I also stamped an envelope to pop it in.
Here is the same card with the silver wings & engine...

So that's all I have for you this week. I hope you've enjoyed this simple but fun fold .
My next blog is on Sunday & I have a gorgeous kit called Beautiful Blues to share.
In next week's mid week blog I will be CASEing a card from Stampin' Up®'s catalogue.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison
