Midweek blog#185 - how to use two different embossing methods on the one project!

Hello & welcome to my blog.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Today's creation is made by using two different embossing methods. I was going to use two different embossing folders originally but when I started playing around I thought 'why not use two different types of embossing instead?'.

My first try was to use the Christmas Words Collage folder & embossed some Basic White...

I  loved the embossed words & dragged the Versamark pad across the words. Unfortunately the spacing between the words allowed the ink to settle there as well & I didn't like that amount of powder that clung to the cardstock.  👎 Rubbed off the powder & went back to the drawing board.

Next, I tried the Eyelets embossing folder on Secret Sea cardstock. As the images were more closely spaced I thought there was a good chance it would work.

The powder did cling to more of the cardstock than anticipated, I think because I hadn't used the Embossing Buddy on the cardstock before running it through the machine, but it looked better than the 1st try so I heat embossed it for this result...

When I looked at the finished piece it reminded me of the Mediterranean Blooms DSP so I decided to cut it into 4 'tiles' & matted it with some Cloud Cover to give the illusion of grouting.
Next I added a Basic White matte before adhering it to a Secret Sea card base.

A sentiment from Simply Said was heat embossed directly onto the base.

To finish the card I added some Basic Gray & Smoky Slate Pearls & decided to add a gift card pocket inside the card using some of the Mediterranean Blooms DSP that I was reminded of.

The addition of the gift card pocket would make it ideal for a male birthday or a lover of blue tiles! 😁

So that's it for my experimentation with 'Double Embossing'. I really enjoyed playing around with something new & hope you enjoyed it too.

My next post will be on Sunday when I will be sharing some super cute cards made with the Darling Dinos bundle.

In my next mid week blog I have a new funfold for you.

I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Aliso
