Mid week blog#186 - Wildflower Birthday diamond pop up fun fold

Hello & welcome to my blog.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

One of my favourite ways of creating - funfolds - is the focus of this week's post. Using the Wildflower Birthday DSP pack I have created a fun way to showcase the pretty patterns of the DSP with a Diamond Pop Up funfold card. I loved making it & it is surprisingly easy to create. I hope you like it too.

From the front it looks like an ordinary card, but when you open it up...

To create this pop up I started with a regular card base, 29.7cm x 10.5cm & score it at 14.85cm & 17.35cm. The other supplies needed are a 10cm x 13.85cm piece of DSP for the front, 2 pieces of 7cm x 7cm Basic White & a different pattern of DSP measuring 15cm x 15cm.

For the decoration of the card I used one of the gift tags from the DSP pack, some scrap Basic White for the sentiment & some Pretty in Pink bordered ribbon & 1/4" White ribbon.

To create the pop up section of the card I scored the DSP in half then turned it 90 degrees, repeating the score then turned it again & scored diagonally once. Here is the card base & DSP after scoring...

The DSP for the front had a 2cm piece cut from the top, leaving 11.85cm.

I then glued the front DSP in place before wrapping the ribbon around the top section of the card & glueing securely in place, holding down a little longer to ensure the glue was adhered.

This now gave me a book binding fold.

I then stamped some images from Birthday Celebrations & Beautiful Balloons (retired) & a sentiment from Simply Said on one of the Basic White squares using Blueberry Bushel, Peach Pie & Coastal Cabana & another sentiment in Blueberry Bushel on the scrap, diecutting it with the banner die from Mixed Labels.

The two white squares were adhered to the top & bottom diamonds & the banner sentiment was adhered to the gift tag. The white ribbon was also tied to the top of the tag. In this picture I have placed the gift tag in it's final position but did not attach it.

Before attaching the tag to the front, the diamond pop up mechanism needed to be attached to the inside.

I started with glue on the bottom piece, lining it up with the book binding fold line.

Once that was in place I applied glue to the top diamond & with the pop up closed, I carefully lowered the top of the card down onto the glued surface & pressed down until the glue was set.

Here is the finished result...

Once the inside mechanism was glued down, then the gift tag could be glued down.

Here is the finished card from the front & side...

I really enjoyed making this funfold & hope you enjoyed it too. It's surprisingly easy to create but has a WOW factor when you open it.
That's all I have for you this time. Thanks for taking the time to check out my funfold card.

My next post will be on Sunday when I will be creating a decoration for Christmas because, before you know it, it'll be just around the corner!

In my next mid week blog I have some tips for you on how to fussy cut. Not everyone likes to fussy cut but sometimes you don't have a choice & these tips can help to make it easier.

I hope you can join me for both of them.

Til next time, take care & keep creating! XX Alison
