Mid Week blog #21 - Collar Fold cards

Hello and welcome to my mid week blog,

These mid week blogs are designed to be shorter than my Sunday blogs so that I can share techniques, card design or other tips and tricks with you. I have a simple technique to show you today called the Collar card.

As you can see from the picture above there are a few different aspects to the card but to be honest it's one of the quickest cards I've made for a while. There's a Basic White card base then a Granny Apple Green matte with a DSP matte on top of that. The first matte has a few butterflies stamped straight onto it before the DSP was attached.

This close up shows a better view of the 'collar' fold which is so simple to create. Starting with the DSP in a portrait position, measure down the right hand side to the half way point & mark lightly. Place the DSP on your cutting device in a landscape orientation & cut from the mark towards the centre for 3cm. The next step is to fold back from each corner to create a collar. This works beautifully with double sided paper in particular but would also look great with a plain 2nd side. I glued both 'lapels' down to help it stay flat as I wanted to place my cute little girl over the top of one fold.

If you don't want to use DSP it would also look great with contrasting cardstock. And of course, you don't have to have the collar on the side as there are many examples on Pinterest of cards made with the collar at the top of the card as well as orientating the collar to the bottom of a landscape card. There are so many possibilities!

If you decide to create some cards using this design I would love to see them so please feel free to post a pic on my FaceBook page - CraftedbyAlison.

That's it for another week. I hope you enjoyed this super easy technique. I will have more cards featuring the Catching Butterflies stamp set in my Sunday blog so I hope you have time to pop back to see them. My Mid Week blog next week will feature a card design that I know as Book Binding. As usual it's an easy technique that I hope you enjoy learning about.

Have a great week & keep creating! XX Alison
