Mid Week blog #102 - Using scoring as a design element.

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator in Melbourne, Australia. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies & sometimes special DSP. My second blog is mid week on a Wednesday where I look at techniques, colour challenges, card sketches, fun folds, tools & equipment & ways to make or improve your projects. That's what this blog is about.

Scoring is an essential part of card making as you need to have good score lines to create card folds, especially for fun folds. But scoring can also be a feature or addition to your cards. Plus it's a quick & easy way to lovely cards. This week I have 3 pretty cards I made in around 30 mins using DSP, cardstock & embellishments that were readily available.

These three cards were very easy to create. They'll now be added to my stash for sending out.

This first card uses Basic White as the base & I scored with the scoring blade of the Paper Trimmer. I scored at 2, 2.25, 2.5, 5.5, 5.75 &6cm. I glued a 2.5 x 14.85cm piece of Flight & Airy DSP in the space between the score lines & stamped Thank You from the Go To Greetings stamp set in Pretty Peacock. I then finished with some retired Pretty Peacock matte dots. Done.

The next card uses Blueberry Bushell cardstock & Flight & Airy DSP. The score lines are at 2cm & 8.5cm & the DSP is 14.85 x 6cm. The sentiment, also from Go To Greetings, is embossed in white directly onto the cardbase. I used a fussy cut piece from the DSP & adhered on the white insert. Super simple.

The final card is probably the simplest. I scored at 2.5 & 3cm on two sides & wrapped some Lemon Lime Twist ribbon from the Ribbon Duo combo pack around the bottom score lines, securing it to the inside of the card. I stamped Happy Birthday from the same stamp set in Lemon Lime Twist & added some Adhesive Backed Glitter sequins to finish it. To cover the ribbon inside the card I added some Lemon Lime Twist Glorious Gingham DSP to both of the inside areas of the card. On the inner front I added some Cheerful Daisies flowers that I had left over from my February 11  & February 14 post. I love the simplicity of this one.

Well, that's it for tonight's blog. I hope you enjoyed it. My next blog is on Sunday & features a gorgeous stamp set called Layering Leaves.
In next week's mid week blog I will share some of the cards I created at the Online Stamping Retreat recently.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog, I hope you've enjoyed it & can come back to see what I have for you on Sunday & next Wednesday.
Til next time, take care & keep creating!
XX Alison
