Fancy a little bit of cake? Creations with the Cake Fancy stamp set

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Stampin' Up® launched their new Annual Catalogue in May & it's a beauty! It's set out quite differently to previous catalogues but there are benefits to that. They now have sectioned it to have beginners, which is a step by step collection of materials in kits, then there is quick & easy where you select base materials & packs of pre-printed or diecut materials plus some stamp sets then there is create your way where you choose all the materials, stamps etc yourself & create your way! In the quick & easy section Stampin' Up® have also provided some inspiration with a colour wheel & information of various ways to use colour combinations. There is a section explaining 4 different ways to vary your colours - Monochromatic, Complementary, Analogous & Triadic. It's a wonderful tool to help with creativity & I shared my first post using it in my midweek blog of 29/5/24 & also in my midweek blog of 24/7/24 but it's not what this week's post is about, that is something I will explore more in future blogs.

As I write this I am listening to the lovely sound of rain on my tin roof. Yesterday & Friday were scorchers & now it's a beautiful balmy temp & there's a steady rain fall. Bliss. I hate hot weather!

Anyway, on to crafting. This week, even during the hot weather, I created with a lovely stamp set called Cake Fancy. It's very cute & can be used for all sorts of celebrations. Here are 2 samples of different ways you can create with this set.

As you can see, they're both unique but they have one stamp in common - the layers of the cake. Now I'll share how I created them both.
The first card is for my son's girlfriend for her birthday so I wanted something a little special & decided to create a tri-fold.

The card base is Basic White, measuring 14.85cm x 29.7cm & scored at 8.7cm & 21cmcm to create the tri-fold.
I then took some Lemon Lime Twist & embossed it with star/floral patterned folder from the Basics 3D folder. I adhered it to the front panel with the de-bossed side up.
The next step was to stamp many, many layers of cake with lots of different gelati inspired colours, a Berry Burst bow & Blackberry Bliss sentiment & then matte it with some Berry Burst cardstock.
The colours of the layers are Bubble Bath, Lemon Lolly, Peach Pie, Lemon Lime Twist, Petunia Pop, Pool Party & Fresh Freesia. These colours were used for the rest of the images also with the addition of Blackberry Bliss. The leaves of the berries are stamped in Granny Apple Green.

I stamped & fussy cut lots of macarons, berries & leaves & adhered them with glue, glue dots or dimensionals to the image then attached that to the front panel. When closed completely you will see a layer of DSP behind the front panel from the Just Kiddin' pack which co-ordinates beautifully with the Berry Burst & Petunia Pop colours.

With the front done it was time to decorate the inside. I continued on with the DSP from the front with a piece on the back panel also. This had a piece of Basic White added, diecut with the Perennial Postage dies & stamped with Macarons & baby berries. The centre panel has lots of macarons & baby berries stamped randomly plus a second Perennial Postage matte with a sentiment & Blackberry Bliss berries stamped on it. The edges were dragged over the Blackberry Bliss ink pad to give some depth. This was then raised on dimensionals also.

Then it was time to create a cake card, after all the stamp set is called Cake Fancy!

I chose Coastal Cabana & Very Vanilla for my second card. I don't use Very Vanilla much but it goes beautifully with the teal & aqua tones of Coastal Cabana & Pretty Peacock.

The front of the card has a matte of Coastal Cabana embossed with the Eyelets embossing folder. To this is added a Very Vanilla matte with a fancy cake with flowers standing on a cake plate. To achieve this layered look I stamped the cake plate in Wild Wheat then heat embossed with clear powder, adding Pretty Peacock & Coastal Cabana layers & a Pretty Peacock bow. The flowers are Pretty Peacock & Coastal Cabana with Crushed Curry centres & the leaves are Lemon Lime Twist & Old Olive. All are fussy cut & added with mini glue dots & dimensionals to the top of the cake.
The sentiment is from A Grand Kid stamp set & is stamped in Pretty Peacock & embossed with clear powder, fussy cut then added to a strip of Pretty Peacock Glimmer paper. A flower & leave accent were added to add some interest along with some Pretty Peacock Foiled gems.
I finished the inside of the card with a layer of Coastal Cabana, embossed the same way as the front but reversed so that the de-bossed side was showing plus a matte of Very Vanilla, diecut with the Perennial Postage dies. Some of the leftover flowers that were not used on the front were added to the matte.
Here are some closeups.

That's it for this creative episode. I will certainly be creating more cake themed cards with this stamp set but this week I just wanted to show you that the set can be used to create more than just 'cake' cards.

I hope you've enjoyed looking this versatile stamp set that can be used for many different occasions.
