Mystery Stamping for a mystery project (or three)

 Hello & welcome.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia.

For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Today I am sharing a Mystery Stamping card. Mystery stamping is when you are given a list of supplies needed for the project then there are simple steps given, one by one, to help you create. It's a fun way of creating that has a little bit of mystery & surprise. Most mystery stampings are done online or by recorded video but as I don't do videos at the moment mine are done via steps in a blog post. I have posted before, on 19/2/25 and on 25/5/25 & it's a fun way to create. I hope you enjoy the process of creating this way.

I will share my finished card at the end of all of the steps but here's the supply list to get you started.

Materials:

This card will be portrait so choose your DSP accordingly.

Card base - Basic White 21cm x 14.85cm scored at 10.5cm

Matte in same colour as base - 10cm x 14.35cm

Basic White scraps for stamping

Co - ordinating cardstock for sentiment matte (optional)

DSP - 14.35cm x 6.5cm

- 14.35cm x 4cm &

- 10cm x 3cm

Inks, stamps & dies

Co-ordinating embellishments to match the base & DSP

Instructions & step by step pictures:

Step 1: Cut a 3.5cm strip from the right side of the card front. Trim to 11.5cm then score at 10.5cm.

Step 2: Add liquid glue to the small scored section of the 3.5cm strip & adhere to the inside of the card base. This can be positioned at any point on the base - centred, upper or lower section.

You can also adhere to the back of the inside matte as I have done in the following picture.

Step 3: Apply liquid glue to the 14.35cm x 4cm DSP & adhere to the matte.

I chose a different pattern from the Wildflower Birthday DSP for this step.

Step 4: Adhere the matte over the flap to the inside of the card ensuring that the flap is open when you adhere the matte. If you have added the flap to the matte, adhere the matte to the inside of the card at this step.

Step 5: Apply liquid glue to the 14.35cm x 6.5cm DSP & adhere to the front left panel of the card.

At this step I chose a striped pattern from the Wildflower Birthday DSP pack & fussy cut the gold scalloped pattern for a different visual effect.

Step 6: Apply liquid glue to the 10cm x 3.5cm DSP & adhere to the front of the hinged flap.

At this step I chose to add some Coastal Cabana to the flap with a blending brush rather than DSP as the image I was using was quite large & busy.

Step 7: Stamp a sentiment on Basic White scrap & die cut or fussy cut.

I stamped the sentiment from Beautiful Butterflies in Night of Navy.

At this step I chose to add a Blueberry Bushel matte behind the sentiment by die cutting with the Delightful Wishes banner & then trimming in half before adhering to the back of the sentiment. This gave a border at each end of the sentiment.

Step 8: Adhere sentiment to hinge flap with liquid glue or dimensionals.

Instead of adding the sentiment at this step, I added the image from Wildflower Birthday then added the sentiment with dimensionals.

Step 9: Add die cuts, ribbon or other embellishments as desired.

With all of the gold in the DSP I chose to only add a few Iridescent Faceted gems which are from my retired stash.

Now, here is the finished card that I created with these instructions:

Here is another card made with the same instructions but I added a contrasting matte at Step 5 & adjusted the measurements by .5cm for the DSP which is the gorgeous Marbled Elegance.

The sentiment for this card was created by cutting a large Cherry Cobbler circle with the Ornamental Christmas dies then clear embossing it. I added a gold ornament cap to the top along with some gold twine then heat embossed a sentiment from Ornamental Christmas in gold on Basic White & fussy cut it. It is raised on dimensionals on the bauble.

Here is the same card with the orientation changed to landscape with Basic Black, gold & basic White mattes added for the sentiment, made with the Branching Out dies. The sentiment is from Ornamental Christmas & the little gold stars are diecut with the co-ordinating dies. The cute little bow is the stunning new Black, Gold & White twine.

As the card flap will naturally fall down if you try to stand it up, I added some velcro dots to hold the card closed & have an anchor point for the top & flap to sit together. Here are the three different versions.

This was a great way to create something a little different & is a great base for a whole range of layouts & finishes as you can see. You're only limited by your imagination.

That's it for this post, I hope you've enjoyed it. Now for some news & information from Stampin' Up®.

Stampin' Up® have many ways of shopping with a physical catalogue, online shopping & in person events. When items are about to be retired or are running low they are put on the 'Last Chance' list which means that there is limited stock & when it runs out, it's gone.

Stampin' Up® 's Annual Catalogue is sectioned it to have beginners, which is a step by step collection of materials in kits, then there is quick & easy where you select base materials & packs of pre-printed or diecut materials plus some stamp sets then there is create your way where you choose all the materials, stamps etc yourself & create your way! In the quick & easy section Stampin' Up® have also provided some inspiration with a colour wheel & information of various ways to use colour combinations. I explored this in a bit more detail in my 1/1/25 mid week blog & also in 30th April blog. The other cool feature is that they provide card sketch & scrapbook layout ideas for you. This is great for any times that you need a little inspiration.
If you'd like to browse the new catalogue online then click here. If you'd like a copy to hold in your hands, leaf through & put little notes all over it of what's on your wish list then shoot me an email at craftedbyalison@gmail.com or message me on my facebook page at craftedbyalison.

The mini catalogue is now available online & in printed form.  There are loads of gorgeous new products in there. There's scrapbooking ideas & products, great tag dies & lots of Christmas themed products ranging from cute to elegant & traditional to modern. If you'd like me to send you a copy then send me an email at craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Stampin' Up® also have loads of additional products available only online. These are called Online exclusives & have no end date, when the stock is sold out, that's the end of it.

Stampin' Up® have a great range of Kits including crafting, card making & gift giving. There were brand new kits added to the collection every month. Click here to check them all out in my online shop. As Stampin' Up® have so many beautiful kits available I usually feature a different kit in each blog so that you can see the range.

This week the feature kit is called Calm & Bright & features some beautiful Christmas card designs in soft pastels, perfect for those who like to be prepared for the Christmas rush! There are supplies for 9 cards in each kit but you can make lots more with some creativity & a few extra supplies. I used this kit when I recently went on a quick break & will share my creations with you in a few weeks.

Here's how Stampin' Up® describe it...

Celebrate the warmth of home and the quiet magic of the festive season with the Calm & Bright Kit. A clean and simple design style paired with a soft colour palette sets the tone for creating serene, sophisticated cards. Neutral bases and intricate die cuts—tiny houses, holly leaves, and banners—layer beautifully to form peaceful focal points, while stamped sentiments like From Our House to Yours and All is Calm, All is Bright add a heartfelt and timeless touch.

If you feel that you need to add this to your list then click here to purchase one from my online store.

EXCITING NEWS!

I recently started a Web design course as I want to create a website for my business & am not very tech savvy & needed professional help.

The course runs until the end of the year & by then I will have a brand new website where I can have my blog, a shop front to sell my products & eventually links to a newsletter.

I hope to have this up and running by the new year with any bugs ironed out & all my products transferred to the new site. Currently I blog via this site - Blogspot - my products are available on my Facebook page & I don't have a newsletter yet. Moving to the new platform will enable me to have all of these goals realised & everything in the one place.

This is a work in progress but I will keep you informed as I progress. It's very exciting but also a little scary.

Fingers crossed 🤞 it all comes together smoothly & I'm a quick learner! 😁

If you shop with me then there are some new changes to the rewards program that you should know about. In the past we were able to create a host code & group together individual orders & pass on the 'hostess' benefits to customers with qualifying orders. This has now been replaced with a 'Rewards' program that gives all customers who place an order with a qualifying amount a credit of 10% of their order to use on future orders. This will be displayed during the checkout process or your order. Stampin' Up® feel that this is a fairer way of rewarding all customers.

There are some new ways to craft on offer at the moment which I will go through one at a time.

Ready?
1Stampin' Up® have just released 2 new joining offers for anyone who is interested in joining & saving a lot of money.

These offers are available until the 31st October so if you're interested in joining then I suggest you check out the catalogues & online exclusives to see what you'd like in your starter kit.

2. Virtual Craft Classes will now be available to purchase from my online store starting with the very first class which happened on October 24th.

The class featured the beautiful Traditions of Christmas Suite collection. Don't worry if you weren't able to attend online at that time as you will have access to the recorded class after the event too! There will be an exclusive Facebook group just for Card Classes which you will receive a link to join when you purchase the class. Access to this group & the content will be available for 6 months after the event.
If you would like further information please contact me.
I was unable to craft along with the team (hubby had his first game of pennant bowls which clashed!) but I will create the projects & share them with you in a future blog.

3. Stampin' Up® recently offered an Advent Calendar as a trial with lots of products hidden behind windows, just like the chocolate Advent calendars but with craft supplies instead of chocolate. They proved so popular that they are now sold out but Stampin' Up® have advised that they will be including them next year as they were such a hit. I missed out 😢 because I was too slow to order but I will certainly be keeping an eye out for next years special offers!
Lastly, there have been lots of great items added to the clearance rack which is now called Last Chance items so make sure you check them out using this link to my online store.

If you would like to purchase any of my creations that I feature in my blogs they can be found in my FaceBook shop at craftedbyalison or you can order something unique.

I hope you've enjoyed today's post.

My next post will be on Wednesday when I use the Colour Coach cards I created in my 1/10/25 post to play around with colour combinations.

Next Sunday's post will feature some spectacular dies called Party Banners which are HUGE but perfect for creating banners for celebrations & parties as well as cards!

I hope you can join me for both of them & come back for more.

Til next take, take care & keep creating.

XX Alison
