Diagonal Split Front fun fold cards

Hello & welcome to my blog,

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who have previously visited my blog & are now returning, thank you. For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!

Here's a little bit about me. I love creating cards & gifts for my loved ones & this blog will show you how to create something special for those you love. I blog twice a week, once on a Sunday where I mainly showcase a stamp set or dies, embossing folders, projects & sometimes special DSP and Wednesday evenings when I highlight a technique, fun folds or tools & tips. I would love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions & my email address for that is craftedbyalison@gmail.com.

Stampin' Up® launched their new Annual Catalogue in May & it's a beauty! It's set out quite differently to previous catalogues but there are benefits to that. They now have sectioned it to have beginners, which is a step by step collection of materials in kits, then there is quick & easy where you select base materials & packs of pre-printed or diecut materials plus some stamp sets then there is create your way where you choose all the materials, stamps etc yourself & create your way! In the quick & easy section Stampin' Up® have also provided some inspiration with a colour wheel & information of various ways to use colour combinations. There is a section explaining 4 different ways to vary your colours - Monochromatic, Complementary, Analogous & Triadic. It's a wonderful tool to help with creativity & I shared my first post using it in my midweek blog of 29/5/24 & also in my midweek blog of 24/7/24 but it's not what this week's post is about, that is something I will explore more in future blogs.

This week's blog is a fun fold with a difference. By using the one sheet of cardstock you can create 2 cards with a unique diagonal split that folds down to a regular card size. I hope you like it. Here are the two cards I created, one portrait, one landscape...

Now for some information on how I created them.

Step 1: With a piece of A4 cardstock, score down the middle both horizontally & vertically.

Place the cardstock diagonally in your trimmer & carefully cut from one corner to the opposite corner. The cardstock is slightly smaller that the length of the trimmer so I cut through to the centre, making sure that the guard did not come down completely at the bottom, this would have crushed the bottom point. Then I simply turned it around 180degrees & repeated. You need to be precise with lining up the cut lines when turning the cardstock.

This will now leave you with two cards ready to be decorated.

For the DSP shapes I used Seasons of Green & Gold specialty paper & cut 2 pieces measuring 10cm x 14.35cm & cut one diagonally from right top corner to bottom left corner

& the second one diagonally from left top corner to bottom right corner.

This will give you the correct shapes for the opposing card designs.

I repeated this step with a different pattern for the inside of the cards.

Apply adhesive to the DSP & apply them to the fronts of the cards. I prefer liquid glue as it gives you a little wriggle room before it dries. Apply the second set of DSP pieces to the inside of the cards.

Then to the decorating!
I again used the Seasons of Green & Gold specialty DSP & fussy cut foliage for the green card. Using the Greetings of the season dies I diecut a tag shape in Graceful Greenery vellum & a smaller tag in Soft Sea Foam as the base for the sentiment & foliage. The sentiment is from the Greetings of the Season stamp set & is embossed in gold. I adhered the foliage to the tags with liquid glue, being sure to only add glue where it would be not be seen through the vellum. A gold bow made with some Gold Twisted thread finished off the sentiment.
I then applied dimensionals only to the section of the sentiment that would contact the left side of the card front. I checked this by adding a sticky not to the reverse when the card was open then attach dimensionals only to the left of it.

The cream & gold card has a lovely bird image fussy cut from the Nests of Winter DSP that is mounted on a Basic Beige circle diecut with the Everyday Details dies that has some Basic Beige blended behind it. The sentiment is from Greetings of the Season & is gold embossed on Cherry Cobbler. It was diecut using the Greetings of the Seasons dies & mounted with dimensionals. The finishing touch is a Gold Twisted thread bow & some Earth Tones shimmer gems.

The inside of the card has a layer of Mossy Meadow & Basic White for the green & gold card & Cherry Cobbler & Basic White for the cream & gold card. The decorations on the inside are fussy cut edge pieces from the DSP sheets. Waste not want not!

Here are some closeups of the card fronts...

& the finished cards...

I think the cards are very elegant & will hopefully bring a smile to the faces of the recipients. I loved learning how to create this fun fold & will use it again when I want a card with WOW but not too much effort.
That's all I have for you this week. I hope you've enjoyed looking at how to create this fun fold which can be used for any occasion.
